Visited here this morning for breakfast because the place I had originally planned on visiting was closed and this was close by (still don't understand how so many places in the city centre are closed on a Sunday). I am a vegan, which makes dining out very difficult, so I understand restaurants telling me that they have nothing suitable for me. However I checked the menu and it seemed like one breakfast option could be made vegan if the egg and cheese was omitted. When my order was taken, I apologised for being awkward, informed the waiter that I was vegan, and asked if this breakfast item would be vegan without so and so. He responded hesitantly with a "um I think so". When I asked if he was sure, he said "yes, it is, yes". I would have been much happier if he had of made more of an effort to check with the chefs. I would have had no problem with him informing me that it wasn't suitable for vegans and perhaps suggest something else for me, or even tell me there was nothing for me. The main reason I am disappointed with my visit was because I am almost certain I could taste butter off the sauteed spinach which came with my breakfast. If the waiter had have have put in more of an effort to explain to the chef that I could not could consume eggs or dairy, this could have been avoided.
However, my friend enjoyed her breakfast and I did enjoy my coffee and the rest of my breakfast which didn't taste of butter. Great location too and nice outside seating. Just frustrating that even though eggs and dairy are also an allergen, more care wasn't taken. That being said, I could be wrong about the butter as I didn't see it being made, but it still would have been nice if my dietary requirements were acknowledged more.
