Owner description: Dublin Castle was for 700 years the seat of British power in Ireland. Today you can still view the remains of the 13th century structure as part of the guided tour. The present Dublin Castle dates from the mid 1700's and today is used by the Irish Governemnt for state events such as the inauguration of the Irish President and state banquets for visiting dignatories. Amongst the highlights are the Ladies Drawing Room, the Throne Room and St. Patricks Hall.

A most entertaining and educational guided tour. The guides name was (among several) Richard. He took us with a firm hand through the different periods and related them to the audience by reffering to links to dfferent nationalities. A nice touch with his «servant». You must take the tour to find out for yourselves what that means. I can highly recommend this tour to all

Our guide was very well versed on the history of the castle which makes the experience much more worth it. Other wise you are just walking around beautifully ornate rooms with very little knowledge as to what, where, why, and how. Also with the guided tour you get to see the excavated and preserved ruins of the original castle from ancient times which you can not gain access to if you do a self guided tour.

There is not much to see at the interior of Dublin Castle but the guide gives you historic background, you can visit the excavated ruins and the chapel - which only visitors in a tour are allowed in.

This exhibition in the Coach House at the back of Dublin castle charts the story of the worst famine to ever strike Ireland. It has video clips telling the story, paintings depicting the horror that decimated the population resulting in a fall from 8 to 4 million. The sculptures are quite poignant. One, in room two, of a cloaked figure, with just one skeletal hand extended conveys an intensity of desolation that is hard to bear. Self guided tour, free of charge.
