Owner description: Dublin Castle was for 700 years the seat of British power in Ireland. Today you can still view the remains of the 13th century structure as part of the guided tour. The present Dublin Castle dates from the mid 1700's and today is used by the Irish Governemnt for state events such as the inauguration of the Irish President and state banquets for visiting dignatories. Amongst the highlights are the Ladies Drawing Room, the Throne Room and St. Patricks Hall.

Guided tour 4euros required for admission.
A bit dry, maybe too dull for children, better for adults.
The castle is ancient, and an important piece to remember Irelands historic relationship with the Great Britain.
The chapel and gardens are free and worth exploring for a bit.
The whole thing should take you about an hour, an educational stopover as you walk between Guiness Factory and Temple Bar.

The building itself is not what one would expect from a 'castle'. So I would rate the building as 'average'. However, the tours are great and keep it all interesting and a unique experience. So if you do go out of your way to go here, make sure you do the tour. Otherwise, if you are around it is worth to walk into the courtyard for 5 minutes, look at it, and leave again.

This tour was outstanding, and reminded me of visiting the White House in the USA because this building is a major site for political figures and not a stone castle like I expected it to be. We walked through many different rooms and learned about the History of political figures who visited here at different times. There are a lot of great pictures to take too!! Highly Recommended for a tour/history of Ireland along with the Kilmanhaem Jail.

We had a really interesting, not too long but very informative tour round the castle, the seat of English rule for over 700 years now used for state and EU occasions. The rooms are sumptuous, especially the throne room and the main conference room, and we learnt something of the history, which was very moving.
