We were told where was "best" to eat, but we decided The Merchant's Arch looked good and the number of locals going in convinced us to try it. The drinks were good and the music was great. I had the cottage pie and my husband had the Auld Dublin Coddle. We agreed that the cottage pie was the best, and I don't think I had another dish quite as good the rest of the trip!

I took my Mom to Ireland mostly for the music. The music here was top notch and the crowd was an eclectic blend of nations and ages. I wish there was better crowd control in front of the musicians (we are not all here to see random people look like fools) but it was worth the trip and was fun

Hi there and thank you for your review.
Our chief inspector of crowd control was on his break during the incident of people enjoying themselves on the DANCE floor :)
We do hope to see you again real soon!

We were hungry and the place looked interesting so when we were ushered in we had reasonable expectations....it was all downhill after that! Husband's steak was mainly gristle, son's was overcooked, vegetables were tasteless and watery, mashed potato was ...well, unpleasant. Chips were okay though...even though they were missed off the order the first time round. Oh and they got the drinks orders wrong as well.

However, the music was good so we repaired to the bar and enjoyed a great set of more traditional Irish music in a great atmosphere.

NB: The 3* rating comprises 5* for music and drink and 1* for food!

called in Sunday morning at 11:50 just in time to order off the breakfast menu, and i'm glad i did!! we got 2 full Irish with the works on it. egg, bacon, sausage, stuffing, beans, mushrooms, tomato and potato. there was no room left on the plate. also had a pint of Guinness and a gin and tonic. and all for 30 euro. absolutely fantastic value. cured my hangover and set me up for the day all in one go!!

Hot, crowded, and over-run with tourists who had read on this website how great it was. I ordered the beef & Guiness pie with vegetables, and recieved the beef & Guiness pie with chips. The wait staff was nice, but the whole experience was pretty negative. I'm sure there are lots of other places in Dublin to eat in much more pleasant surroundings.

Hi there and thank you for your review.

We appreciate your feedback, and I hope you will also appreciate our honest feedback based on your review.

Firstly let me apologise on behalf of the waiting staff as you did not get vegetables with your meal but instead received chips. If you had of raised the issue - there and then, we could have replaced this meal immediately, but instead you let us know on TripAdvisor. We applaud you for that.

Also you say it was very HOT, CROWDED and over run with TOURISTS who read on this website how great it was. Well have a guess what? 95 percent of the people do think it is GREAT!
It is summer and your in TEMPLE BAR which is one of the biggest tourists attractions in Ireland, (Just in case you didn't know)

 - So anywhere you go in the area is going to be a little crowded and you might just bump into one or two tourists along the way! Why come to temple Bar if you wanted somewhere quiet?

Please call back and see us again and be sure to let us know you are coming so we can put up some balloons for a more pleasant surrounding and positive experience :)
