We've stayed at the Harding before, and the price is a bargain for the location (between Christ Church Cathedral and Temple Bar), but it didn't totally meet our expectations this time. We booked en suite because we had snoring issues in our group. We got a room with two beds instead. The receptionist, or whatever she was, considered that to be good enough and had no interest in the situation. Maybe around St. Pat's they start thinking that advance booking at lower rates isn't such a good idea and get grouchy. I can survive if a problem like that doesn't get fixed. I just want them to say they appreciate my concern and they will let us know if there is a cancellation instead of sarcastically blowing us off. I know there is nothing you can do about snoring, lady. That is not the point. After we left, something came up about our credit card in connection with foreign travel. I got this terse email implying that we were trying to rip them off and threatening that it would be escalated, which was pretty hilarious. I understand the concern, but why not give yourself a day or two for a response before you go ballistic? What was she going to do? Report us to Interpol? Register a complaint with the American embassy? Alert the IRA? In spite of her attitude, we did not mean to be difficult, and it was easy enough to fix. The guy on the other shift was actually a lot more pleasant about it. The price and location still make it a good value, and it's quaint and quirky in a good way, but it's getting a little frayed around the edges (stained carpet, mold in the shower, and such), and we just really did not feel very welcome this time around. After the Clifden experience, I'm about to decide that St. Pat's is a good excuse to just stay the hell away from Ireland. There were a lot of uspsides within walking distance of the hotel, including the cathedral, the Liffy, Temple Bar, O'Neil's Pub, Dublin Castle, the national museums, and Trinity, but those will all be there any time of the year.
