Attraction details
Owner description: Rated as one of the most popular attractions in Dublin, a visit to the Jeanie Johnston Tall Ship and Famine Museum will intrigue and fascinate all ages. Over 1 million people left Ireland during the 1840s at the height of the Great Famine, fleeing starvation and hoping for a new life in America. This mass emigration created a huge diaspora of people with Irish ancestry in the Americas, and later in Australia. The life-size wax figures in the museum below deck on the Jeanie Johnston are all modelled on actual passengers who made the journey to North America on the ship. Daily tours begin AT THE SHIP which is located on Custom House Quay just downriver from the International Financial Services Centre and across the road from Jury's Inn Hotel.

Great tour, couldn't recommend it more. The ship where no one has ever died, which was a huge feat back then.

“Not much to see but still interesting ”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 weeks ago via mobile

Used our Dublin City pass, was a bit of confusion to start with as the ship has been moved for a few months from its normal location, all sorted in the end!

We didn't book and just turned up and made the 11am tour. It's last about 50 mins and our guide was very knowledgable

Quick look outside and then down into hull for more info

Worth a visit

“Unique look at the lengths some people when to get away from the potato famine.”

Friendly staff, very knowledgeable about different families who took the long journey from Ireland to Canada. It gives you an insight into the journey and what happened to people along the way.
