Booked with them online for 65 euros per person. If you book a second tour with them, they will give you a 5 euro per person discount. The Giant Causeway tour left at 6:30 in the morning and the meeting time is 10 minutes prior in front of the old church on Suffolk. The tour bus is one of those big tour buses that seat 55 people. However, we only had about 25 or so folks so it did not seem too cramped as some folks got 2 seats. We had taken a Paddywagon tour and they packed the bus full of people which was awful. The Extreme Island tour buses were clean and new. We were promptly picked up and made our way to the Belfast area which is 2 hours from Dublin.

First stop was Carrick a Rede Rope Bridge and we were allowed 1.5 hours to walk to the rope bridge and back. The walk there is about 20 minutes on a gravel path and then there are stone steps leading to the rope bridge. The views are very nice.

Next stop was the Giant Causeways. We were allowed 2 hours here and it was plenty of time. You can take a shuttle to there for 1.2 euros or 1 pound one way. But if you walk, it is a paved road and it is pretty much downhill going there and takes about 20 minutes. We walked there and shuttled back.

Lastly, we stopped in Belfast city center for an hour. Throughout the day, if you plan on buying anything bring british pounds or access a cash machine. However, we were able to use a credit card at all the stops.

There were plenty of stops along the way for toilet breaks and a couple of photo stops. Our driver Joe was a great guide and driver. It was a little windy but overall a nice day out and a great tour. By the time we made it back into Dublin, it was close to 8pm. Definitely worth getting up at 5 in the morning for this tour!

Great experience, a day trip of Ireland in a short amount of time. It was made better by our tour guide Bud, who was extremely accommodating and sweet. Although the weather was wet and cold, the scenic view was worth it!

My friend and I only had 3 days in Ireland, and this was a great way to see more of the country. Our driver, Jer (Ger?), was extremely kind, knowledgeable, and was always thinking about our comfort. He made the time pass by telling us about the places we were driving by. It was a well-planned itinerary, and I had a fantastic time.

We were very excited to take our Cliffs of Moher all day tour. The sights during the course of the day were wonderful, and we really felt we got a good sense of the Irish countryside. (as good as you can get in one day)

However, our trip was partially ruined by our guide/driver. He was really more of a chauffeur than a tour guide. He got us around, and maneuvered the large coach well. But he was sorely lacking when it came to interesting, useful or entertaining information. His comments were marginally interesting at best and irritating at worst. His singing, which he often did, wasn't bad...but it wasn't good.

We had just taken a great day coach tour to Stonehenge, Bath and Laycock from London a few days earlier and our guide was great, this made our Ireland tour that much less enjoyable. In contrast, the company seemed disorganized. There were three coaches with no assignments so it took some time to get everyone onto the coaches. (each coach held @53 people so upwards of 160 customers needed to be placed on the go)

We skipped the castle we originally were scheduled to see because our driver didn't like it. We stopped at another castle instead. No instruction or history was given to us by our driver. While some people stopped in the nearby shops, we and several others walked to the castle only to find that we didn't have time to go in. We ended up walking around the castle for around 10 minutes, using the restroom at the shops and leaving. No history or other info was ever offered by our driver in reference to the castle. The only info we got at Cliffs of Moher from our driver is that we were naive to think it was a windy day when we were there. It apparently gets much windier. So much so that people are blown around, which our driver finds amusing. He did tell us one funny story of a lady losing her dress at the cliffs from the wind.

Lunch was good, but we had to kill time while other coaches that arrived before us cleared out of the little place that it seems all the coaches frequent. We ended up eating lunch after one after getting going in the morning at 6:45.

We made a couple of other stops at old buildings about which we were told nothing.

When asked questions, we often got quizzical or derisive glances in return with no real answer. We asked how to get to the street where our restaurant was. Our driver didn't know. It turned out to be a major road 2 blocks from where we were let off of the coach. So close that our cab driver wouldn't let us pay for the ride. (when does that ever happen)

We had booked this tour thinking it would get us back to Dublin around 6:30 pm. We made 8:00 pm dinner reservations as a cushion and we were still late for dinner. We wasted time at several stops (by our driver's own admission once) and stopped for gas on the way back.

In summary, I think the trip has great potential and we were unlucky to get our driver. There seemed to be several other companies that give this tour. To do it again, I'd shop around.

Hi Tampa,

Thanks for the reply. I would appreciate if you could contact me directly on keith@extremeireland.ie so I can discuss with you who the guide was on your trip so we can figure out who it was and talk to them. It's very unusual that out guides have a day off but if they don't get reviews like this, they will never know what is going wrong or from a management point of view the same.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Keith

Nice way to spend a day on your trip to Dublin, and to get a taste of Northern Ireland.
Always consider it's a long trip, but if you're lucky like us, your guide is going to entertain you a little with interesting and funny stories of everything you pass by.
Even if you may think it is kinda cheap, doing the same exact trip on your own, would be as much as expensive, and on public transportation it would take a lot more.
