“3 nights in Dublin February 2012”
Reviewed 20 February 2012

3 Night trip with friends to Dublin. Stayed at the D4 Berkley Hotel. Hotel nice although further from city centre than we thought. Room nice except for bathroom which was well in need of a total refurbish and clean. Breakfast very nice and unhurried. Had a great few days and for the price paid, we were very happy with hotel.

There is nothing really wrong with the Berkeley, apart from the feel that it's about 10 years out of date, and would benefit massively from a refurbishment. Our room was functional, if a little too hot and stuffy. Ate in the restaurant one night, and also for breakfast, and the food was fine...again, nothing to complain about but equally not exceptional. It is in a good location, a nice 15-20 min walk to the city centre...right next to the Aviva stadium, although there was no game on when we were there, so I don't know if that is a good or a bad thing.
One minor gripe was that we couldn't get any room service late on Saturday night...it was quite late to be fair, but the staff were very unhelpful. They ended up telling us to order a pizza from a local take-away and said they'd direct it up to our room, but it never arrived.
I wouldn't rush back to stay at this hotel. Look at other options first if you are looking at staying in Dublin, although know that if you do end up here then it'll be fine if not spectacular

Needed a hotel close to Ballsbridge to attend a rugby match. Advance payment and great price. Wanted to check in early to drop bags but was told that would incur an extra charge, cheeky. Asked at reception could I leave my bags with the concierge but she didn't understand what a concierge was! When we eventually settled on a porter we made progress. Luggage room was unlocked and anyone could walk in and out and take your bag, and no receipt was given which I didn't like. Room was fine, bit tired and dated but clean and overall stay was comfortable. If you are looking for a great location and price and are not too fussy about the room or service this suits fine.

Stayed here for one night as it was the location was handy for the O2. The reception area and the staff were very nice. The bedroom itself was fine but when the heating came on it sounded like there was a tap running constantly in the room. The noise was loud and it came on at 5 am. Also the air conditioning unit in the room seemed to be noisy. You can clearly hear conversation and noise from the rooms on either side as well so had a very bad night's sleep. The breakfast in the morning was very nice. The location is very good for the O2, RDS or Landsdowne but I would not stay here if I wanted a relaxing and restful night.

Stayed here as regular hotel i use for business overnight stay was booked up. Maybe tells a story.
Still retains the 5 star look and feel but some things have been let go. My room was freezing and the antique aircom was noisy although i turned it off when the room heated up. Bar and lobby retain their elegance from days gone by. I just chose to eat from the bar menu. Not a bad price and good quality meal.
But some easily fixed things let the hotel down and give it a cheap feel.
The ground floor gents toilets off the lobby were a disgrace. A sticky floor with a laminate 'out of order' notice in one urinal and 2 others leaking. These were obviously unserviced with chewing gum in most and hand towels pulled out and dragging on the floor.
What I really disliked is that wifi was not free as in other local hotels and overnight parking was charged - €10.50! In many years of travel I've never been charged for parking in a hotel I was resident in. Breakfast also €5 dearer than local hotels.
I won't be back as there are better local options suitable for my regular business needs but this would suit one night stays for Aviva stadium or RDS events.
