My husband and myself have been staying in numerous County Hotels around Ireland this past year and booked a three night stay at Harvey's point ,some weeks in advance . We specifically requested a lakeshore suite as we wanted to be able to sit outside and enjoy the view . Everything was simply perfect ! The weather, unexpected for March, was fantastic and being able to sit outside on our terrace in warm sunshine ( which is what we had hoped for ) was blissful . The hotel is unpretentious and somewhat European in its decor. It's not a big sprawling hotel with a spa and pool area , nor is it trying to be something it isn't. That's part of its attraction . There is no Brash furniture or loud furnishings , no Staged furnishings . This is a hotel with a soul at its centre . That centre is "Isobel's Room " , a quirky square room filled with paintings by the same artist and a fireplace and a room you go through en route to the beautifully appointed Restaurant with its huge picture windows looking onto the lake . Breakfast, which is excellent , here in morning sunshine was just beautiful. On learning the history of the hotel, we loved it even more, as Isobel's room is actually the original cottage where the hotel began and all the paintings were done by the owners mother ! The Bedrooms are huge, food and service are excellent . Dinner in the restaurant was very good with plenty of choice . The staff were all so lovely and again not pretentious or OTT , just lovely friendly people . Our thanks to the restaurant Manager who on Sunday night when the Restaurant is closed, opened a section of the restaurant so we could eat our bar food in a quieter area as there was music in the bar and it was busy .He also kindly took the time ( after a very long working day which still wasn't over ) to give us a history of the hotel and spoke with huge enthusiasm . This is what makes Harvey's Point special . The owners and staff .
The hotel is meticulous clean and has the most stunning views with its lakeshore setting. The layout is slightly quirky and it's obvious that additions have been made over the years . There was some building work going on and on arrival on the Friday afternoon we were a tad put off by the noise coming from the construction work when we opened our door to enjoy the view from the terrace . However, we appreciated that the hotel is continually striving to make improvements and we both agreed that the current bar is too dark and does not make the most of the views or light and this current extension will change that . The quiet "reading Room " with its lakeshore views is currently under-utilised and will now house a smaller bar area and no doubt be a perfect place to sit and enjoy a G N T or afternoon tea in a perfect setting . There are numerous interesting and very lovely walks and strolls in the vicinity and around Lough Eske which we did and thoroughly enjoyed . On recommendations from the lovely concierge ( can't remember her name ) from Kerry, we headed off on a glorious sunny Saturday afternoon, after our morning 2.5 hour walk ,to visit Slieve League , about 30 k away . Wow... we were literally blown away by the incredible views . This was better than the cliffs of Moher and less commercialised with a stone pathway of steps up from the main viewing point to what is one of the most beautiful viewing areas in Ireland . We had hiking boots which are definitely advisable if you are going to make the climb up from the main viewing point . It was late afternoon and the light was fading but with the right footwear and weather conditions the trek across the cliff top ( a stone pathway is currently under construction) is spectacular .NOTE do not park at the first car park you come to with a gate, the gate opens and you can drive up to the other car park at the top of the cliffs thus saving yourself quite a long walk .
There are also beautiful walks on Rossnowlagh and Murvagh beaches and a stop off for food at Smugglers Creek was very enjoyable if a little crowded on a Sunday .
Harvey's Point Hotel is definitely one of the best hotels in Ireland and certainly deserves the rewards and accolades it has recently received. Donegal is stunning and has won my heart after a long long time away .

We are just back from spending 2 wonderful days and nights in this superb establishment. We were staying in one of their Premium Suites which were just out of this world. The space and comfort in the rooms make you never want to leave them. But we did leave, thankfully, for dinner in the Main Restaurant and boy we were not disappointed. The food was Michellin Quality, professional presented and served by the courteous staff members. It was a food and wine extravaganza. We went to bed very well fed and watered. If we impressed by the dinner, the breakfast will blow your mind. They have thought of everything, from crepes, to omletes, gluten free products, products for all allergies if needed. Fresh bread, situated overlooking the beautiful Lough Eske. Noel Cunningham, Deirdre and all their staff are a credit to the hotel. There are not enough good things I can say about this hotel, only that I will be telling anyone that listens to go here. We are already looking forward to returning in the very near future. Keep up the good work guys xx

Room tip: All the bedrooms are of a very high standard and quality!

Just returned from a short break at the fantastic Harvey's Point. It was amazing. The setting beside Lough Eske was beautiful. Everything about our stay was perfect, from the food to the extremely helpful staff. Breakfast had all you could want and more; the bar food was delicious and dinner in the restaurant was outstanding. I cannot praise the staff highly enough for the attention and help they gave to us and the other guests. They were so friendly, knowledgeable and helpful and they really made our stay a memorable one. Nothing was too much trouble. Already looking forward to our next stay!! We will be back!! Thank you to all at Harvey's Point, and well done!

We recently visited this hotel for a family wedding, the surroundings and the hotel was lovely, we stayed in the lodge which was comfortable and compact. The down fall was the food ! We had a chicken Caesar salad to start with , which I found the chicken under cooked , a very salty soup followed and then the choice of mains were offered as turkey and ham or roast beef! When I asked how the beef was cooked I was told the chef likes it medium, if the chef himself was eating it that may be ok , but personally I think it should be served to the guests liking, I had the turkey and ham which I found to be very tough and the ham was very salty, no one sent back an empty plate which says a lot . The dessert then followed, it was like something that you would get at a child's birthday party. I was Very disappointed with what we got , after all the publicity it receives for good food .

Dear Guest,

It is with regret that we learn of your disappointment with the food offering at the family wedding that you attended at Harvey's Point last year. Please be assured that we welcome all guest feedback, whether it is positive or negative. Every detail counts as it is our goal to deliver the highest standards in every aspect of the guest experience.

Food is an important element in our offering. I am sorry that your dining experience at the wedding was not to your satisfaction and to that end, I extend our apologies. For clarification purposes, the terminology used at banquets may refer to the chef 'advising' how a particular dish is cooked, as opposed to his personal preferences! After all, in the catering trade, we cook for our customers, not ourselves!

Furthermore, I respectfully question your comment in relation to the dessert buffet, which generally receives rave reviews from our many valued guests of all ages. With a choice of up to twenty-five home-made desserts on display, it is unfortunate if not unusual for at least one of them to appeal to your taste!

We measure guest feedback in great detail and I am pleased to confirm that, based on reviews and direct guest comments, we have exceeded our own high targets in recent months. I can also assure you that our journey to continually strive for excellence continues.

I stayed here for one night and loved it. The rooms, service and food were all amazing. The location is just wonderful and the narrow roads to get there just add to the atmosphere. I will definitely be back!
