Great indoor market at the city center with a great place to eat upstairs. Worth a stop.

“Not to be missed”
Reviewed 31 December 2011

Great food market located in the centre of Cork city. Open as a market from 1788 and still thriving. When the British Queen visited Ireland in 2011, the English market was one of the places on her itinerary.

Quite a range here from exotic fruits, vegetables, artisan breads, handmade chocolates, fish & meat. Additionally there are numerous cafes in which you can take a pit stop.

“The smell alone is enough”
Reviewed 28 December 2011

The English Market in Cork is wonderful. We had initially wanted to go there because it has been around since 1788 amazing. The thought that my ancestors had potentially bought their goods in this market made me beyond excited. Not to mention going to a place like this made us feel a little more like a local instead of tourists. The smell of this place is fantastic; the cheese, olives, fresh bread, seafood and cured meats was just mouthwatering. We hadn’t had lunch yet and so it was even better to sample the locally made foods. I was particularly floored by the price of the cured meats like prosciutto – coming from the states where it is never cheaper than at least $15, to find it for only a few euros a pound. Fabulous. The entire experience made me want to remain in Cork.

What an atmosphere. And the smells will make you feel like you are in a bazaar in morroco.. very well laid out and behind each corner is another treat. Bring the kids over to the fish mongersand see the various fish on display.. very cool for kids who like weird and wonderful things.

“Not to be missed if you're in Cork”
Reviewed 28 November 2011

Apparently one of Europe's top food markets. Who am I to argue? A great place to wander around and enjoy the sights and smells but also a reallly good place to buy some of the things you probably won't pick up in your local Tesco! The seafood counters are excellent. The freshest of fish and seafood. Great city centre location too.
