The Old Ground Hotel in Ennis is an excellent hotel and restaurant. As well as the hotel bar they have an adjoining restaurant The Dining room which is very good. I would highly recommend this hotel for Accomadation and dining.

We booked this hotel for our second not night. As we were joining the Rick Steve’s tour here the next day, we stayed here two nights. What a great introduction to western Ireland. Our room on the fourth floor was outstanding. And the hotel’s facilities were great. We had dinner at the Poet’s Corner. It sits across the street from the Saints Peter and a Paul cathedral. It has a delightful lawn garden outside of the front doors. That was a great place for drinks and snacks and people watching. They have Wi-Fi, but we learned that Wi-Fi in Irish hotels is not very good. It was poor and erratic. Still, sitting in the center of Ennis and with a staff that will try to meet your every desire and need, this was one of the highlights of our trip.

I wasn't sure about staying in Ennis or this hotel when I booked but it was close to Lahinch and the Cliffs of Moher so I took a chance to try this out. The hotel, restaurant and service was excellent, really felt welcomed. The town was also very pleasant but suggest you arrive early as the town closes down early and the shops look like they are worth browsing.

We stayed at the Old Ground for one night after an overnight flight from the US to Shannon airport. As the hotel is only about a 30 minute drive from the airport, it is a great spot to spend the first night if worried about potential jet lag.

The hotel is historic and charming with friendly staff. Upon arrival, we were delighted to be able to check-in early.

While our room was small, it was very comfortable. A large bowl of fruit was provided. Very tasty! Breakfast was included in our room rate. It was delicious with a wide selection served in a lovely dining room.

We happened to be in Ennis during what was apparently the hottest day there in 42 years! I was delighted to discover that this old hotel had the modern convenience of AC. At first, our room's AC did not seem to work. But a staff member knocked on our door shortly after our arrival just to make sure our room was cool. She helped us adjust the temperature control. It was another example of the helpful staff. We slept comfortably.

The hotel has ample off-street parking, which was greatly appreciated after discovering the narrow streets of charming, colorful Ennis. The hotel is located in the heart of this compact, walk-able town.

We anticipated suffering from jet lag, but for some reason, we happily did not experience any effects on this particular trip. Feeling quite energetic, that afternoon, we drove to the Cliffs of Moher, about an hour's drive away and spent several hours there (in the heat!!) taking in the stunning views before returning to the hotel for dinner. The Old Ground is a good base for visiting the Cliffs.

We felt that we got great value for our room rate. If we are ever lucky enough to visit this region again, I definitely would stay at the Old Ground.
