Although it was a Sunday evening after a fab visit to The Kelpies we did manage to get the only table left for four of us. The manager was really grumpy definitely unwelcoming so we reckoned he shouldn’t have been there to do that job. The food we all ordered was the burgers that seemed to be the speciality for the bistro but although it said “ flame grilled “ on the menu one of our party couldn’t eat it at all as it was quite scorched / burnt & very unappetising to look at . The tables were soo tightly packed in it was very difficult to access the seats especially for an 89 & 92 year old ! Not a pleasant evening out & very very disappointed . We even told the grumpy waiter “ in charge” & no apologies nothing so very much doubt if we would return though I personally may try the restaurant again but not the bistro!

Excellent stay at the Champany Inn.

Tranquil Scottish get away. Although the Champany itself is outside of the nearest towns it is only a few minutes to Linlithgow by car.

Queensferry 20 minutes away.

Nice big warm rooms, very welcoming staff, a bi tof old fashioned wordly charm to make you feel relaxed. The bathroom was large maybe time for an update but spotlessly clean and warm. The Chop and Ale steak house is great for steak and lovely home made chips the best in the area.

Thanks to all staff for making our visit special. Your friendly service was brilliant from the moment we arrived. We liked our accommodation, everything as expected and it was very comfortable. We very much enjoyed our dinner within The Chop and Ale House. Being greeted by name by the restaurant manager was something special. The ambience, the service and the food were all fantastic. The breakfast staff were brilliant too and we were served up a truly excellent breakfast. Fast, efficient and very friendly check out. Thanks to all at The Champany Inn.

The Champany Inn is a bit of a find. It does not seem to be easily booked on-line and for this reason is not as busy as it should be. This is good news for the average traveler. They have a terrific Chop House serving great traditional foods. I love the ornate decorating and hope they don't change. We arrived during the August Festivals. Take the train into Edinburgh from Linlithgow which is only 2 miles away. We parked in the city park lot and were not ticketed though our car was there all day. If you travel by train after 9:15 am and after 7:00 pm you will save about half the cost of the commuter fare.

Room tip: They are all the same and are all great!
