Macleod Road was not our usual idea of a holiday location but the house was like the Narnia wardrobe opening out into the forest. The house itself was spacious and very comfortable, plenty of space for us all (4 adults, 5 teens), furnished with everything we could have needed and all in good taste. We'd have needed a lot longer if we'd started reading the bookshelves properly. Balloch is really handy for Inverness and the area, only a few mins drive to shops, great walks and visitor attractions. Avril was very welcoming and helpful.
We visited Scotland at the end of September and used this property as our base to explore the Highlands for a week.
We were amazed by the luxurious-hotel feel of this house (we stayed in a similarly-priced house in Edinburgh when visiting the south of Scotland and the quality could not even be compared!). The beds were extreeemly comfortable and we had everything we could hope for in the bathroom (so next time I will visit flying-in with only hand luggage I will no longer bother packing toiletries miniatures, which is refreshing for a change!) and the kitchen (I was cooking for the 9 of us most evenings and whilst I of course bought the fresh-products at the 24h-Tesco, I did not need to bother buying olive oil, vinegar or spices).
Having rented cars we found this house to be an ideal base to discover beautiful sights. We went to Nairn twice to enjoy long walks on the beach and we also went hill-walking a couple of times very close to the house. We tried to see as much as possible in the week we had (Culloden Battlefield, Fort George, Cawdor Castle, Loch Ness, Fort Augustus, Urquhart Castle, Elgin, Cairngorms National Park, the distilleries along river Spey, and of course Inverness itself which is also well-worth a full-day visit) so we really appreciated how quiet the house was when we came back in the evenings as we were tired and it was fantastic to have a long night of sleep uninterrupted by city noises :)
The house was very spacious and our group of 9 adults had a fantastic time hanging indoors playing board-games and cooking together when it was raining (to be expected in the Scottish Highlands). Sitting all together by the fireplace was very cozy, but when we fancied doing different things in the evening, some of us enjoyed the TV room whilst others would be reading upstairs or spending time in the living room... sometimes a large group welcomes being able to split in to smaller groups and this was possible here.
I highly recommend this house for any group of friends (or family) wanting to discover the beautiful Highlands!
