Vibrant salad boxes freshly made to order and interesting sandwiches etc to take away or sit in, in simple surroundings (wood floor, tables ingeniously made from pallets). On my second visit I opted for beetroot and lime hummus with avocado. At one end of Academy Street you could go for an M&S salad made hundreds of miles away and encased in plastic - or at the other end of the same street you could discover that the Grumpy Chef isn't grumpy at all, but cheerfully offering your taste buds and the environment a treat.

Visited on Saturday 30th June with family. Got a table by the window and enjoyed a lovely lunch in relaxed atmosphere. I had the Black Pudding & Brie ciabatta which was delicious and fellow diners had the Baked potato with tuna. Picking your own components for the side salad is a nice touch and the resultant dish was thoroughly enjoyed by my wife and sister. Several cups of fine coffee later we thought we’d better leave before they closed. Wouldn’t hesitate to return. Great place to eat.

Small venue in town which is mostly a carry out venue though they do have about 4 tables and we were lucky to get one.

I had a salad made up there and then choosing the ingredients myself from a vast choice, guided by the staff as to what was what. Everything looked and tasted lovely and fresh. The chap serving us was cheery and had good banter. Home made lemonade was delicious.

Very good value for money. (Less than £10 for a substantial salad and and tuna roll with salad, a bottle of water and a glass of home made lemonade.)

Definitely recommend and can’t wait to go back.

Went for breakfast and tried pancakes and sausage on a roll. The service was wonderful-very prompt and friendly. The food was delicious! The pancakes were light and fluffy and the maple syrup was real syrup. The coffee was delicious as well. Great location, as it is right across the street from the popular Leakey’s bookstore!
