Would never recommend this place, very poor customer service from the female trainee manager who was on duty. Not a dog friendly establishment unless you have a mute dog.

Having spoken to several dog owners following my visit it seems plenty of other people have also had negative experiences about this trainee manager who really needs a course in customer service.

There are other much friendlier establishments close by which are better suited for people wanting a relaxing drink without the supervisory mafia on their case!

Go elsewhere people!

West is a little gem of the east end and Glasgow Green.

Service is always on point and food is always delivered at a very high standard, particularly love the Wiener schnitzel.

Added bonus the restaurant is dog friendly.

It’s a shame as i’m not one to write negative reviews but I can only share my experience as I found it. We took our puppy in today and the whole experience was negative. When we went in our dog was barking a bit but not a huge amount and we were talking to another dog owner, almost immediately we were both told to ‘watch the dogs in case they blocked the door’. Ordered coffees and before they even had the chance to arrive we were asked if we would ‘like to move to the empty side room’ which we did without complaint. Could see the member of staff constantly watching us. Different member of staff came and served our coffees and was talking to our dog she was lovely. Before we had the chance to sit down and take our jackets off and get our dog settled the same member of staff came back in to the empty side room we were in and told us we would be given another couple of minutes before we would have to leave. We decided to leave anyway as it was over the top and hostile. On the way out another dog owner couldn’t believe the attitude we had received as our dog wasn’t aggressive and clearly a puppy. When outside another dog owner had just been treated the same way and told us it has happened before. It was clear unless your dog is mute you aren’t welcome so i’m guessing if a child is throwing a tantrum they will be asked to leave? We were going to go back for lunch after our dog walk but after this experience wouldn’t go back and wouldn’t recommend. We have been recommended other places which are actually dog friendly and not just saying it to bring customers in.

Dear annabelle2011,

We are very disappointed to read your review and the manager who looked after you during your visit is saddened that her efforts to help were considered anything but in the WEST spirit of hospitality. Whilst we are truly dog friendly (Our 8 month old Golden Retriever Brian spends 7 hours every day on Glasgow Green), we also have a few rules in place which ensure that every customer (whether they love dogs or not) has an enjoyable experience at WEST. These rules are clearly written on several black boards in the garden, restaurant and bar area. We understand that dogs do sometimes bark, but we have a 'three barks' policy as a compromise. People who visit us and don’t like dogs, need to be looked after too, we feel. On this occasion you were seated beside the main door, and then our Hop Room (an extension of the bar) was offered as an alternative as it is a quieter, less frequented area where it might be easier for a dog to settle. Especially if, in your case, it is a puppy that is unused to such busy environments. Unfortunately, your puppy did not settle, and barked continuously. Only at this stage did our team ask you to move to the garden and we decanted your coffee into take away cups for your convenience. We are sorry you feel that we are not dog friendly. We hope our many canine visitors will be testament to the contrary.

Kind regards, WEST on the Green

Love it, love it, love it. As an animal lover I was very impressed to see all the furry balls there. The idea to bring dogs in the bar is just genius. I wish I lived there. I love your approach on the rules for the dogs too. Very clever and funny. Great place to have coffee or beer too.

My Wife & I went to West on the Green a few weeks ago. We had bought a voucher from Itison for four pints of their beer, and we decided to have something to eat while we were there. I should start by saying that the Beer was excellent. I had the Black Beer and my Wife had the St Mungo Ale. There was nothing in particular that was wrong with the food either ( except for the Pretzels which were stale and tasted only of bread and salt ) but the offering of German cuisine was not really to my taste and, in my opinion, was not appropriate for a cold February day. The service was good though, and we'll be back for more of the wonderful Beer.
