“Lovely decor and staff”
Reviewed 9 September 2011

Overall our stay at 5 Pilmour Place was great. The decor is beautiful - lovely pictures, statues, ornaments, fabrics, wall paper etc. It seems to have been well thought out and chosen carefully. Although we didn't look in all the rooms, but from the website it is clear they are all decorated individually.

My husband described the breakfast as 'one of the best he'd ever tasted'. Obviously the ingredients are well sourced and cooked. There is also plenty of choice if you don't fancy a cooked 'Scottish' breakfast. The waitress at breakfast was very pleasant and chatty.

Personally I couldn't bring myself to score it 5/5 - the price was more than what we would usually pay for a B & B - we were late booking a room in St Andrews and so couldn't be picky about the price. However, I appreciate it is not a cheap town to stay and the price is probably increased due to the proximity to the golf course (although we are not golfers so therefore it wasn't a massive plus). Our bathroom (room 2) was absolutely tiny - I was 3 1/2 months pregnant at the time and glad I wasn't any further on as I would have struggled to get out of the shower.

However it is a beautiful place and we couldn't fault the staff in any way at all ... perhaps I am just a bit stingey with my money!!

You know how hard it is to choose one place to stay over another when looking at hotels or B&B's on the internet. Just by luck I happend across Five Pilmour Place. Prior reviews and pictures of the B&B were very helpful, along with the location being near St. Andrews golf. Well we were not disappointed. When we first drove up, our first take was a feeling of warmth. The atmosphere and staff made you feel like you were staying in your own home. The rooms and food were great. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated. Being a B&B, we enjoyed the company of others and the staff as well. Jackie, Norman and Caroline were so friendly. Never being in Scotland before everything was really overwhelming but Jackie helped us so much in make arragements for travel and suggestions on great resturants. Thanks for a wongerful and relaxing stay. I would definetly suggest making this your next stop.

Very comfortable, secluded, luxurious, spacious accommodation. We were made to feel very welcome. An unexpected bottle of champagne awaited our arrival! Breakfast was excellent, imaginative and sociable - friendly waitress was very attentive without being obtrusive. A happy start to the day, and to the rest of our married life!

My wife and I stayed at 5 Pilmour Place last week. The Wrights are thoughtful and charming hosts. For example, my laptop wouldn't connect with their wireless network (problem on my end). Jackie's solution - she loaned me her laptop for our stay. No charges showed up on the bill for that act of kindness. The facility is immaculate, the food was great, but most of all, the Wrights and their staff are committed to making one's stay in St Andrews like a visit with longtime friends.

We spent 6 nights at 5 Pilmour Place on our first visit to Scotland. This place is fantastic.

Jackie is very nice and very accommodating. She gave us the rundown at check-in and helped us store our golf bags in the special storage area (great for drying your gear if caught in the rain) then showed us our very large, nicely decorated King Size room with Huge soaker tub and shower stall in the large ensuite bathroom. The room was very comfortable and we found the house to be nice and quiet even though it was fully occupied for the duration of our stay. I really liked the shower, very simple to use and once you set the temperature you never had to change it for the rest of the trip. we had coffee, tea, cookies and bottled water in the room and it was refreshed daily.

We enjoyed breakfast along with the other guests each morning and were able to get great tips on what to see and do around St Andrews from those who had already experienced them. Breakfast was as big or small as you wanted, with a continental buffet and a hot cooked to order breakfast also. Jackie wanted to make sure we were happy and while breakfast was served between 8 and 9 each morning, she always asked if we needed and earlier serving to accommodate our golf schedule. She is very thoughtful.

We spent the week walking to all our destinations since they were so close to 5 Pilmour Place... the Dunvegan Hotel was 4 doors down and has and great Pub with brilliant characters and story telling going almost continually. The R&A and the 1st Tee of the Old Course at the Links are literally a 3 minute walk out through the back door of 5 Pilmour Place. Shopping and Dining are 5 to 10 minutes into town along North Street, Market Street or South Street, all having lots of things to do and experience along the trek. The Ruins of a 12th Century Castle and the Tower, Graveyard and Cathedral ruins are all within 10 to 15 minutes walk and are worth the effort to visit.

We had a truly lovely stay at 5 Pilmour Place and will certain be back

Room Tip: Room # 3 is worth the extra expense
