Hadn't visited Chiquito's for a couple of months. In that time, they'd changed their menu: half the old dishes have now been removed...and not replaced by anything.
The old menu, which was presented to you as a thick card booklet that ran to several pages, is now one side with scant options. We ordered the nachos, which appeared after a good 20 minutes had passed - the tortilla chips were soggy (because of the runny salsa that they'd dumped on top of them), there was hardly any cheese on them and what cheese they had deigned to add hadn't properly melted. Utterly horrible.
Chose my usual beef tacos as the main. What on earth had happened there? Previously a little holder with three tacos in it would arrive - all kept separate with the salsa on the side in a bowl. Now they chuck the three of them on a plate and pour the salsa over the top. Wet salsa. Crisp tacos. No - now a large lump of it is just wet and soggy.
My wife's veggie fajita was equally lacking. Where before the sour cream, salsa and guacamole were in separate tubs, they were now chucked on a small plate and ended up blending together. Less cheese too.
As for the desserts...the churros quantities have been halved, there are now 4 churros for a quid more than they used to serve you 8 for. And the thick chocolate sauce they used to serve is now a tiny bowl of runny dark chocolate liquid. Yuck.
And what was with the cheesy chart music, what happened to the salsa soundtracks?
All in all, less choice, less finesse and more cost and completely understand why this chain is struggling. Grim stuff. We won't be back.
