Walked in off the street. A wonderful ambience and welcoming staff greet you. Quick service for drinks, fresh warm bread, and tap water. Excellent menu without too many choices, and the dishes well described. Had tasty terrine, very nice mackerel, and extra special parfait dessert. Good wine list too. Would happily recommend and gladly go back.

I was staying with friends and wished to take them to dinner as a thanks for hosting me. They had heard about this cafe and so we booked a meal (I highly advise booking!). It was delightful in every way. It is small and initimate and appropriately decorated. The table settings were of good quality, the tables and chairs comfortable. The owner came by several times to be certain we were content with our meals. The wine list was superb. Despite eating too much in the main courses, the deserts were so tempting that all three of us ordered one - and did not regret it. The menu was innovative and yet Scottish traditional.
The waitress was charming, intelligent, knew the menu and ingredients, and made appreciated recommendations. Definitely a five star experience.

At the bottom of Thistle St, a perfect storm of French classics and Scottish produce roils in Café St Honoré. Its warm staff and correspondingly warm interior – filled with wood, chequered tiles and crisp tablecloths – transport diners to another place and time. The ingredients are fresh, the cooking rustic, and the results delicious, though with minor qualms about the saltiness. My venison and roasted vegetables were treated with exemplary respect, glazed carrots, a mustard sauce and acidic balsamic beetroot relish stealing the show. This Edinburgh institution shows little laxity with age, delivering the taste and comfort that matter.

Chilly wet Saturday lunchtime in May. Enjoyed a cheerful welcome from the waiting staff. Restaurant offered an innovative and varied menu, The six of us chose five different mains. All of them were delicious and a very nice wine list. I highly recommend this establishment. Will visit again when next in town.

I'll start of with a bold statement, Cafe St Honore is my favourite restaurant in the UK.

Let's start with the staff. Professional, knowledgeable, incredibly friendly. One particular waitress recalled the bottle of wine I had purchased on a visit 2 months earlier. That customer obsession is second to none. As an outsider, I've never seen a team between restaurant and kitchen with the relationship of this place, it's like a family, but with no strange, passive aggressive cousin, it's amazing, and that relationship they have formed with each other benefits it's clientele ten-fold, don't ever lose that!

Next, the menu. Words don't do justice the flavour pairings, everything on the plate is there for a reason, and not just to fill space on the plate, or for decoration, it's incredible. Every bite is heaven. The wine menu is expansive and reasonable, and as mentioned earlier, the staff know their product, and are more than happy to share their knowledge. It feels like the kitchen and front of house must have a daily meeting to discuss wine pairings, there is barely a moment's hesitation when you ask, it's extraordinary.

Location, zero foot or road traffic, tucked away, perfect location.

Ambience. It's like being in Paris, the intimacy of a small and candlelit restaurant, and there's little to no noise from the kitchen or the bar as the staff quietly work their magic, it's so peaceful.

Value - How to put it...like fine dining made accessible to the working man. Value for money doesn't come into play when you're eating the very best, and it is an expensive night, but it's not like you'd be eating here every week, so it's fine.

I heard recently they won some award, perhaps best restaurant in Scotland..? Well deserved, and overdue.

Hats off to the team. What a magical gem this place is.
