Although the place is clean, the man who runs this place is not very friendly at all. In fact, I found him to be anti-American. I would not recommend this place nor would I ever go back. Sadly, this kind of place makes me want to stay in a hotel. There is also no parking, no common room to sit and visit with friends in and the rooms are too small to use for visitors. He is a stain for the local B&B owners who work hard to make their guests happy. Stay elsewhere.

My friend and I -we are both teachers- stayed here for 3 nights this week. The owner Sal was most helpful with booking Grayline tours which by the way picked us up at this location, cooked a wonderful hot breakfast, and chose for us room #5. Upon entering the b and b it may seem not so plush with a living area, however, our room was huge. We had a desk, a double bed, a single bed, and a sitting area all our own in the room with bay windows and comfy chairs. The ensuite bathroom was delightlfully clean and prepared with new towels each day. The beds had great quality mattresses and very soft sheets. Tea and coffee service in our room was so nice. The #10 and #27 bus stopped in front of this b and b so the short 5 inute ride to Old Town was simple. Cost is 1 pond 50 per ride or 3 pounds 50 for a daily pass--exact change is NECESSARY aqnd again Sal helped us with exact change.
There are several other choices of b and b's on this street, but none had as pretty decorated rooms as here. Food is inexpensive in thios area as there is a college close by and most complete meals are about 7 pounds. Take out is available or standing service for about 5 pounds for fish and chips for example. Please stay here is you have the opportunity.

My sister & I stayed at Castle Park for Hogmanay (Dec. 30, 2013-Jan. 2, 2014). The guest house was located within walking distance of the city centre & there was also a bus stop right in front of it. The 3 person room was the only one available when we booked. It was spacious, comfortable & clean. The en suite had been recently renovated and was well appointed.

Cooked breakfast as well as cereals were provided on mornings. The waitress was friendly & the cook made everything to our liking. However, the breakfast room was a bit too small to seat all of the guests comfortably.

Our only difficulty was that no one was available to check us in when we arrived on Monday night despite informing the staff of our arrival time & arranging to check in late beforehand. We had to wait for 10-15 mins for someone to let us in.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Castle Park & would recommend it to anyone else visiting Edinburgh.

We were searching for a place that was conveniently located and within walking distance to city centre of Edinburgh....and this was just fine. The staff and owner were friendly and were accommodating. The breakfast you can choose from a continental or a cooked breakfast and was quite satisfying for us. If there was something you did not want or liked some other way all you needed to do was ask. Would we stay here again....yes we would.

Room Tip: Room 8 is a good room - has its share of stairs but it is one of the rooms with an ensuite washroom (WC).

We stayed a couple of nights recently and would never stay again. It was convenient enough for Edinburgh and we were on a budget, so were not expecting anything particularly wonderful. However, the entrance hall stank of the owner's fried fish, the carpets needed cleaning throughout, the bathroom was okay, but not spotless and breakfast was poor - overcooked eggs, very cheap sausage, etc. As for the owner, I don't think I've ever met a more rude, surly, unkempt and unfriendly owner / manager / member of staff in any establishment I have stayed anywhere in the world. For £8 more per person the night before in St. Andrew's we were in a spotless, comfortable, beautifully appointed place with very friendly staff who could not have been more helpful.

Avoid this place and book one of the others on the same road (there are plenty of them).
