We stayed here for a few days in September. The place was immaculate, looked like it had just been decorated. The host provided everything you would need, breakfast items, milk etc., they even left us a wee dram. The view of the castle is amazing. The bed was extremely comfortable and enormous. There are a large number of steps up to the property, but you need to be fit if you visit Edinburgh with its steep hills and steps.Close to lots of cafes, pubs and restaurants.
Very comfortable, clean, exceptional high standard furnishings and appliances.
Peter was their to greet us and explained in detail about how everything worked, very pleasant person.
Welcome pack of milk, coffee, tea, crossaints, yoghurt and other items.
Bed was so comfortable, plenty of towels supplied, and toiletries too
This was such a nice place to stay very near to many restaurants and main attractions we were so impressed with the accomadation
Would highly recommend.
The Signal House is in the rear of a private garden, overlooking Edinburgh castle, high above and far from the busy street noise. Within a 3 minute walk are 2 nice cafes with very good food (they close at 6p) and a market. The Grassmarket is just a few minute's walk away. Peter was waiting for us when me arrived from the train station. Be advised that our Uber driver did not want to drop us off in front of the place because of the traffic (taxis are more likely to), but the drop point is just a short uphill distance from the entrance to Cordiner's Land, which houses The Signal House and several other places. Peter thoroughly explained all aspects of the house and patiently answered our questions. Gratefully, he even stocked the fridge with yogurt, milk for coffee (also provided), pudding (oatmeal), and croissants. He even provided TP (and not just a starter roll!). His communication before and during was very good. Here for a 50th wedding anniversary, he thoughtfully had a card waiting for us and also brought up the heaviest suitcase!!! We are 70 and did fine with the stairs. There are no reasons for you to question whether this is "the" place for you two. It is.
Signal House is one of those places you can't wait to talk about, but at the same time want to keep as your own little gem of a secret. Hosts like Peter are rare. He was very responsive, thorough in his communications, and took extra time to ensure our stay was comfortable. Best host I have had the pleasure to work with in my many years of online holiday booking. Top notch. It might be good to note that although the cottage sits on "ground" there are 44 stairs to reach the entrance. The views and conscientious renovations of the structure make the climb more than worth it.
My first time in Edinburgh and I picked the perfect place to stay! Super clean, quiet, well appointed apartment close to everything. The Greenmarket is just down the street, the Museum is an easy 9 minute walk, lots of local restaurants, and the Castle is part of your wonderful view! Full kitchen WITH a combination washer/dryer for your clothing was a most welcome sight! I still don’t know how you can wash AND dry in the same machine, but who cares: I loved it!! My hosts left me some breakfast goodies and a wee bit of whiskey. This place, though it’s in a busy area, is so quiet as it is inside a courtyard. The bus also stops not far from the front door! There is a Sainsbury’s express right up the street as well. If I’m ever in Edinburgh again, I shall most definitely return! Thanks again for your beautiful place!!
