Excellent location, quality of hotel and standard of service. Staff extremely friendly and helpful, nothing was any problem. Will definitely be returning and would recommend this as an ideal location for visiting all the sights of Edinburgh.

The staff were exceptionally welcoming, cheerful and very helpful. We ate in the hotel brasserie on our first night where the food was good and not overly expensive. The buffet breakfast was also good with plenty of choice. Our room, however, was rather dark and badly designed, especially the bathroom. The twin beds were large and very comfortable, but the television could only be seen from one of the beds as it was up one end of the room. The only mirror in the bedroom was a long mirror on the wardrobe door, but it was in the darkest part of the bedroom with no lighting nearby. The bathroom was clean and modern but had no towel rail and only one small hook near the door, so nowhere to hang towels to dry after using them. There was no shelf near the washbasin to put our toothbrushes etc. - only a high shelf above the toilet. The tea tray and kettle were stored inside the wardrobe, where there was no electric socket, so we had to carry it all across to the other end of the room to plug the kettle in. There was only half a toilet-roll in our bathroom for our two night stay, which wasn't replenished, so we had to find a member of staff to ask for more. The hotel location was good in some ways, as it was only a 10 minute walk to the Grassmarket area and about 15 minutes to the Royal Mile and Princes Street. But there were two pubs across the road which seemed very popular and incredibly noisy until late at night with people outside smoking, shouting and singing into the early hours. We kept our window shut but still had difficulty trying to get to sleep. Also there are a couple of strip clubs about 50 metres from the hotel, so quite a dodgy area to walk past after eating out on our second night.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the front of the hotel are noisy because of the pubs opposite

Dear paulaEastAnglia,

Thank you for choosing the hotel and for sharing your experience of your stay with us.

I am happy to read that your stay was overall a positive one with some shortfalls from the team and design of the bathroom being detractors along with the noise and local area.

I am glad to read that this did not seriously impact your overall city visit and hope that you did everything that you had planned.

Kind regards

We had a lovely night here , lovely hotel and great location which was very central for attractions, transport links and shopping. We ordered room service and breakfast in bed. Can't fault anything! It was all terrific start to finish.

The staff were welcoming and very helpful. We only stayed one night. The room was a typical standard room. It was clean and about 5-10 minute walk to shops and attractions. I have stayed at better Doubletree hotels.

Dear vacationer1841,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for sharing your experience.

Although I am happy to read that you stay was a pleasant one, I am sorry to read that you found the hotel dated. We have a robust maintenance system in place to ensure the property remains in great condition with continual investment with the hotel only refurbished in 2013.

I am sorry that your stay was not as perfect as we would have liked however I do appreciate your feedback.

Cosy hotel with a cute welcome cookie, we’ve got the rooms that are overlooking Edinburgh castle a modern room with vintage windows and a good sized room the breakfast is great also
The hotel is centrally located in the old town of Edinburgh which makes walking to all attractions very much easy where most places are at least 10 minutes away
