Eating here is like being with long term friends. The staff, very efficient and friendly, know you well. Each time the welcome us genuine and the meals divine. Such care is taken to source the ingredients and make the dishes so interesting. Today's express menu a steal at £9.95 starting with fresh warm bread then a choice of venison carpaccio with cranberry jam, asparagus tart, and herring rollmops. The venison was delicious and the rollmops sheer delight. Followed by Colley fish, a big helping with lobster bisque. I I had braised shoulder of lamb, jus, green beans and dauphinois potatoes. Barely room for the brownie and coffee. The wine a Merlot Grenache at such a fair price. The restaurant was full with regular customers, all enjoying themselves. This is where we come back to time and again. Thanks to Michael and all the staff.

There are many choices of good food in Edinburgh. This gem is nestled halfway down a close (sidestreet), and had good reviews. It was the best of all our meals. Good variety of entrees, and well prepared. The servers were pleasant and prompt. Fabulous!!

Given the high quality of food in Edinburgh, and given Michael Neave's excellent reviews, we were excited about our meal here. The ambience was sophisticated, the food was well presented, and the service was perfect. However, the food lacked complexity of taste and flavor. All the items (the ratatouille, gnocchi, Wellington) were shockingly bland - we had to keep the salt and pepper shaker handy throughout. The dessert was also just OK - the clementine mousse was heavy on cream and light on clementine, and the dark chocolate was but a thin casing. I would have given this restaurant a rating for 3, but for the price, the food definitely didn't seem worth it.

A pleasant quiet location in old town Edinburgh, clean modern designed interior, friendly welcome and service. Inspired cooking, good choice of wines some very good value. Try the venison and the steak was excellent if you prefer. Good value, good night out.

Given excellent guide on which whisky and which order to taste the whiskies before enjoying dinner. The dinner meal was presented artfully and was very tasty.
