“Edinburgh nights”
Reviewed 27 October 2011

We stayed for three nights centred round a wedding in the Botanical Gardens which was great as we could walk back after the evening do. Also fantastically situated for the very pretty Stockbridge area., A bracing walk into the center helped to burn off the calories in our beautifully cooked breakfast. The staff were delightful, friendly and highly competent. Our upgrade to the studio suite was a lovely surprise and gave us our first experience of sleeping in a four-poster bed! Also a kitchen with washing machine. The room was very quiet despite being at the front and no noise from other rooms. In fact we were quite surprised to find so many other guests at breakfast. Would definitely revisit.

As soon as we walked in to the hotel we were greeted by the lovely Marta and heard the magic words "upgrade" we were blown away, not just by the room but the service that we received the two nights we stayed. Thomas looked after us during most of our stay and was very attentive. Our room overlooked the street and you couldn't hear any street noise at all. The ensuite is small but workable. The hotel is in a lovely street opposite the Royal Gardens and is a good walk into the main part of town which is probably a good thing after breakfast. I can thoroughly recommend this hotel and found no fault. You must go to the Orchard Bar/Restaurant for dinner and drinks, great food.

Room Tip: Don't worry about street noise as you can't hear anything. We were given a room on the first...

We stayed for 3 nights in October 2011 in two rooms - a double and a twin. It's in one of the very typical Victorian sandstone terraces which cover the nicer parts of Edinburgh and as a converted house, the rooms aren't huge. But the views were fantastic (we could see the castle from our room) and the place has lovely period features which (for me) gave it the edge over the soulless hutches provided by some of the hotel chains. Breakfast was excellent, the staff were very helpful and friendly, the position was very convenient (10 minute walk to Princes Street and right next to the beautiful Botanical Gardens) - we would definitely book again.

Room Tip: Room 8 is a double with a view of the castle - less traffic noise on this side of the building too.

My wife and I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights in Sep.2011.The upgraded us to their four poster apartment.Thats my title for the room we were in.Our own kitchen with fridge, washing machine cooker etc.nice size bathroom.a big bedroom with a great big window. It also had a great old fashioned fireplace. We had our own entrance from the main st.For breakfast and general information we were looked after handsomely by Thomas. The hotel was about a mile walk to the centre of Edinburgh.Buses could be got from just around the corner at £I.30 a trip.Or you could buy an all day bus ticket for £3.20.The hotel had its own small bar which closed at 10.30.but we used a bar 2 mins.walk away called The Orchard.nice beer, friendly staff it also did food which we did not try,Nearby was a beautiful park and gardens.

Room Tip: ask about the ground floor apartment would be great for a small family

Stayed here one night on business. Had booked a single but they "upgraded me to a double". Have to say room was very small and bathroom miniscule with wardrobe nothing more than a few hooks and hangers in a cupbaod that had been built under the stairs. Decor a bit tired but bedding and bathroom spotless albeit latter had very few toiletries . As a business taveller I find 08:00 too late to start breakfast service (though to be fair they did offer me take away) . If I was here on leisure and on a budget I might be tempted to score it more but for my purposes there are similar priced rooms in better quality establishments closer to the centre of edinburgh and while named "hotel" inverleith is definitley more of a guest house I think .

Thank you for your comments. I have looked into our records and it appears that you stayed in our small double room. Normally guests who book a single room are very happy to be upgraded to this room. The wardrobe is not under stairs as it is on the top floor of the building and there is a rail and hooks within the cupboard/wardrobe. I think what may have happened is that the previous guest had removed the hangers from the rail. We would have happily rectified this by giving you more hangers. This did alert us to the fact that hangers can go missing and we have now put unremovable hangers which clip in but are no use to take away.
This is where reviews come into their own and we are pleased to hear comments that make us improve facilities for our guests.
We are also pleased to hear that you found the bathroom and bedding spottlessly clean we do pride ourselves on our cleaning standards.
As you booked in September after a very busy festival period the decor may have tired a little but this is soon rectified as we go into a quieter season. We always supply soap, shampoo, cotton wool and cotton buds for our guests, so was sorry to hear you did not thin there were enough toiletries. We are pleased you enjoyed our take-away breakfast for early departures, but we are more than happy to open the dining room earlier than specified 8 am we have kitchen staff from 7 am therefore guests who require a light cooked breakfast can also arrange this.
You will find that in fact we are classified as a Metro hotel which means we are very close to the centre with many local restaurants and as such although we do not have our own restaurant for evening meals - we do offer room service meals and light snacks which can be taken in our breakfast/dining room. Part of this classification is that we have 24 hours cover and a licensed bar which you would not find in a guest house or B and B. We find that most of our regular business guests do prefer us to many larger sterile hotels, and enjoy our friendly facilities including the free wifi.
