I stayed one night in a single room and the room, although petit, was good. The room had many teas and coffees, an iron, an ironing board and even a safe but I'm not sure how that worked. There was also a brochure in the room with details on all the art work in the corridors. Although I didn't have time for the bar myself, the menu displayed a massive selection of drinks, especially whiskys. The only downside was that my room was near reception and it was a little loud when guests were coming and going.

Room Tip: Insist on a room on the higher floors away from reception if possible.

Our room was large and comfortable. The breakfasts were outstanding. The staff were very helpful.
Our only complaint was street noise. We had room 6, which faced the street. The cobblestone street amplified car/tire noise. And the single glazed window did little to dampen the noise.

This hotel has a very perfect location and the hotel itself is stunning. Nice rooms, not very big though but so beautiful restored. The bar/restaurant, the staircase and hall is full of fantastic paintings, we spent some time there just looking at the pictures.

The service was personal and perfect only small negative thing was the pastry and bread for the breakfast buffet. This food seemed to be days old.

Having read so many positive reviews I did not think for 1 moment that our visit would be nothing but perfect - It was the total opposite. I would not stay here again. Very noisy, uncomfortable beds and not work the high price.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
24 Royal Terrace is a new hotel on one of Edinburgh’s most iconic Georgian terraces. Designed by the famous architect William Playfair in the 1820s, the 16-bedroom hotel retains the original architectural features of the building whilst introducing a bold contemporary interior design. Situated in close proximity to the town centre, the hotel backs onto the Royal Gardens of Holyrood Palace and Calton Hill with commanding views across to the Firth of Forth. All rooms offer beautiful views, either of the hotel’s garden or onto the majestic Royal Terrace itself. Suited to both business and leisure guests, the rooms vary from spacious apartment suites to affordable single rooms. Our elegant rooms are designed for comfort and relaxation with stylish contemporary fabrics, heavenly beds, White Company toiletries, plump white towels and Egyptian cotton sheets. Mixing the old with the new, the suites comprise antique furniture with modern touches. Some rooms feature cast iron baths in the bedroom, whilst others have rain showers in the bathroom. All bedrooms offer wireless and wired internet connection to ensure guests can tap into our high speed internet, have Samsung Smart TVs fitted with amplified Soundbars and Apple Airport Express, enabling guests to stream audio and video from their own devices or from their NetFlix accounts, plus USB power sockets for charging devices. The entertainment isn’t limited to the bedroom; in the en-suite bathrooms, guests can control their music from a keypad to play over high quality Blucube speakers. The hotel features a private, original art collection including works by Scottish artists John Bellany, Peter Howson, Steven Campbell, Henry Kondracki and John Bratby. 24 Royal Terrace’s facilities include rt’s bar, a stylish meeting point for guests serving a carefully selected menu, from Scottish and continental breakfast in the morning, to tapas in the evening. A champagne afternoon tea is also on offer at rt’s between 2 and 5pm daily. rt’s serves a fine range of whiskies, playing to Royal Terrace’s historical nickname, ‘Whisky Row’, a reference to the number of spirit merchants who lived on the terrace when it was newly built. ... more   less
