Many great restaurants nearby: Jamie Oliver, Ivy on the Square. The Dome is across the street. Easy and interesting walk to the Royal Mile. Staff was very helpful with dinner reservations and local information. Printing Press restaurant was good; a lively scene at night. They were very gracious and managed to fit us in on a Saturday night when we showed up saying, “Help! We’re staying here and we haven’t booked in”. We found Edinburgh restaurants usually very tough when you haven’t booked ahead. Burr & Co Cafe on site was also a nice place for a “flat white and a croissant” in the morning, a nice spot to watch Edinburgh go by. Rooms decent size although baths a bit cramped.

Room Tip: Those in the elevator bank to left of lobby seem a bit more “modern”.

The hotel is in a great location and the service from everyone that we dealt with couldn't have been better. Recently renovated.......beautiful. Restaurants in the hotel are very nice. It is truly a wonderful place to stay. Definitely plan to return here on our next trip to Edinburgh.

Room Tip: The rooms on the sixth floor provide a wonderful view.

Room elegant and immaculate. Attention to detail really good with lovely little touches. Hotel in excellent central location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast extremely good .On checking in, I only mentioned in passing that it was my partners birthday and when we returned to the room there was an iced muffin and greeting card waiting; lovely touch.

I have become a firm fan of the recently renovated buildings in cities the Principal Hotels have taken over lately and this one is no exception.

Having stayed at the York Hotel, I was glad to discover their hotels (Charlotte St too) in Edinburgh and had no hesitation booking. The elegant, stylish and relaxing art deco style decor is always a welcome sight!

Really close to the station (5mins walk), The Principal is located in a pretty Georgian-esque street with pay and display parking available. The concierge and reception were very friendly and we couldn't extend our thanks to Marta enough after the acknowledgment of our wedding anniversary celebration - a complimentary upgrade! No-one at hotels ever really does that anymore or even acknowledges small important details like that! Brownie point!

The Printing Press restaurant is more brasserie style and was ok, however service did let them down a little (ran out of white wine, wrong red wine brpught, delayed service) but the bar is beautiful for an evening and the cute Burr & Co coffee shop attached was so appreciated! Their Chilli & Cinnamon hot chocolate was to die for (The Salted Caramel was pretty special too!) and serve small savory and sweet food all day.

Just off Princes St, it was so easy as a base to walk everywhere. Turn right out the hotel and ypull be met with high end, luxury shops (Molton Brown, Phase Eight, Aspinal, Karen Millan etc) and restaurants. Turn left out the hotel and you're less than 10mins walk to The Royal Mile towards the castle.

Restaurants nearby worth trying are Dishoom (delicious indian street food!), The Dome, Gusto, The Ivy brasserie, Amorona (pizzeria).

We do love this chain of hotels despite being more hardcore boutique/independent hotel supporters. Somehow The Principal hotels seem to offer the personalised experience more associated with smaller, independent hotels but affordable, friendly and a little more luxury in their conveniences. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, the staff are a credit and the location is just too convenient!
