The hotel location was good, the room was tight but nice, and the value was good.

The window to the street is very difficult to open or close with an arcane mechanism. It also provides absolutely no noise reduction from the street. It was very loud when anyone came in from the bars.

The front desk staff was ok, but relatively indifferent to questions or requests.

It was ok, but I wouldn’t stay there again.

Dear ChicagoBigHouse,
Thank you for your valuable comments. We take your comments seriously and determined to improve. We regret that your stay wasn't up to your expectation. As we are a listed building, the windows and frames are bit tight to operate. But they all shut properly. As we are listed, secondary glazing are not permitted. We apologise for any inconvenience may have caused. In our past so many comments, it was surprising to understand our reception team were indifferent towards you. My sincere apologies on behalf of the entire team. Hope you give us another chance to put things right for you. If you wish to discuss any of the matters further, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
Kind Regards

Whilst visiting relatives we were treated to a meal at the cairn hotel in whitburn/bathgate
The wait staff were friendly and attentive and knowledgeable of the varied menu
Food arrived promptly well presented cooked perfectly and very generous portions.
The restaurant was busy but where it was roomy it didn't have a cramped atmosphere.only it is a little dated decoratively but at the same time had acquaint quantity to it showing off its historical lineage of the area

We stayed at the Cairn Hotel for 2 nights and enjoyed the location. When we arrived there was a fire going in the lobby and it seemed very inviting. Unfortunately we were we and our adult daughter were told we were staying in the annex across the street. We had a good sized room in the basement, down 2 flights of steep stairs and our daughter was several flights of stairs upstairs. The staff carried our luggage for us as there was no elevator. They were helpful but we would have preferred being in the main hotel where we thought we were staying. Breakfast was ok but the second day we made our own (cheaper and better). No one cleaned our room after we were there for a day so the desk person came and collected the trash. I guess the price was good as was the location but other things could have been better.

Dear Feistmoore,
Thank you for sharing your valuable comments. It was great to hear from you. We are glad that you enjoyed your time in Edinburgh.
As we are a listed building and it has limitation to any alterations including lift facility. The Annex rooms are the newly refurbished area of the hotel and that is the only reason we have prioritised you to there. We are terribly sorry that it wasn't up to your liking.
We apologies for any inconvenience may have caused during your stay with us.
Please let us know about your next visit to us and we will make sure you have an enjoyable time at the main Hotel building.
Kind Regards

I'd booked one night for myself and two nights for my folks, as I was heading home before they were. Since well before the trip I'd wanted to stay here - it looked so lovely from the photos and all the reviews were great.

The location was excellent, but we were less than impressed with the accommodations. We were in the annex across the street, and my parents were in a basement room down two flights of steep steps. I was upstairs two flights of steep steps. The size of the rooms and the decor were just fine.

I wasn't impressed with the tea making facilities (just a couple teabags and some sugar and non-dairy creamer, tea bags looked like they'd been there a while, as did the creamer) and the promised hamper of treats was really just two bags of crisps, two bottles of water and two brownies, in a hamper in the wardrobe.

If we stayed here again I'd request to be in the main hotel, I assume those rooms are better and there are less stairs. Also, we had no idea we'd be in the annex, as it is billed as apartments and not as regular rooms.

Otherwise, I can't say enough good things about the closeness to the Leith Walk and to some amazing restaurants, and a quick walk to the main drags of the New Town and Old Town.

The staff were very receptive as well - helped with our bags as we had to leave the bags and come back to check in later, brought the heavy suitcases to our rooms, brought extra toiletries to our rooms when requested and booked me a taxi for my airport ride.
