We took the train from England and the location of the train station was just diagonal to the Old Waverley hotel. Also, the bus station for getting the AirLink to the airport was also a minute from the hotel on Waverley Street. We bought our tickets ahead of time (4 pounds 50 pence each) and the AirLink apparently runs about every 20 minutes, 24 hours a day - great service !!

There are stairs to get from the street to the reception area. From there, there are elevators / lifts to the floors. We were on the second floor near the elevator. Despite this, it was quiet and we were never disturbed by other guests.

The front desk staff were friendly and helpful with any of our requests. Check-in was timely.

Our room was small but adequate. It was classified as an "inside room" so we only had a small window looking over the rest of the hotel. The room was nicely appointed with a hairdryer, iron and ironing board, small dresser, closet, and a nice bathroom with bath gel and shampoo. If you use a washcloth, take your own because we did not find one on our travels in England or Scotland in any of the places we stayed. Also, the bathtub is a very deep step in tub that may be difficult if you have mobility issues. Ask the hotel if they have other rooms available if this is an issue for you.

The hotel was perfectly located to get to Rose Street and other streets beside and behind the hotel for restaurants close by. We ate at The Black Rose and Mussels Inn which were both good. This area is fairly flat.

There is a restaurant (Cranston's) in the hotel, but we did not eat there, so cannot comment. There are so many restaurants in Edinburgh that we wanted to try them all !

If you have mobility issues, getting up to the Royal Mile may be an issue because it is all uphill or by stairs beside the Scottish National Gallery. It was about a 10 minute walk uphill.

If we returned to Edinburgh, we would definitely stay here. Just as an aside, we booked the Scotland portion of our trip through Superbreak - hotel and tours - and they were most helpful and prompt with replies to our emails.

Nice 3 star hotel. Day and evening staff very friendly. Close to all the shops in middle of princess street. Would definitely recommend this hotel. Bus to and from airport right across the road. We booked a junior double it was small but fine.

Large, very comfortable and clean room. Hotel is in a great location very close to Edinburgh old town. Staff were helpful. Overall very pleasant stay. Only negative is the price - quite expensive but I guess you are paying for the location.

This is an old hotel that has a lot of charm- the hotel staff is helpful. The location is really just perfect - would stay here again for that alone. Breakfast is decent. Only negative is the stairs getting up to the lobby and the fact that the lift was broken for most of our visit there. This was very difficult on my elderly aunt - The hotel did try to make things as accommodating as they could.

Room Tip: noise from the street after bar hours can be pretty loud - might want to ask for interior room for that matter.
