Stumbled on this place by accident and what a gem! Was perfect for a light snack stop and coffee. Great atmosphere and really efficient and friendly service. I had the lentil and bacon soup which was just delicious and the cakes were amazing! Definitely worth a visit.

Came across this fairly new coffee bar and was very impressed. Promptly welcomed upon entering, despite the cafe being busy. Service was really prompt, not too long to wait before ordering and then again when food/drinks were delivered. Food was excellent quality and freshly prepared. Visited late in the afternoon and still a good selection of cakes available which is unusual for some smaller coffee establishments. Unfortunately, didn't get chance for cake, so will need to have a return visit

The business name tells you that it is a basement establishment (and therefore not ideal for prams, pushchairs, wheelchairs or the infirm!). That apart, it is a splendid little place which offers coffees, cakes, soup and toasties etc. I opted for a light lunch - soup (a chorizo, white bean and tomato concoction) and toastie (roasted veg and humous) and both were delicious and satisfying (for under £7). Surely a central Edinburgh bargain! I had no room left for cake and coffee but the cakes on display looked excellent and home made. The premises are small, clean, urban chic and well laid out given the constrained space. I got the second last table and the place rapidly filled up. I noticed that one later arrival had booked a table (so that seems to be an option). This place is firmly on the list for a return visit.

Incredible service, very friendly. One of the best filter coffees I've tasted, Rwandan made with total care. And the rhubarb cake was sublime!
