If you want good quality fair then head here. It's the sort of place you would have gone to forty years ago. Good service tops it off.

I had high expectations of this place as it looked lovely from the outside. Me and my business partner pass through Hawick on some occasions so we stopped for lunch here. It was all a bit disappointing to be honest. The food was okay, we had soup and sandwiches, it was more the cleanliness of the place and the staff that let it down. A bit grubby with old food stuck on the table and dirty cups. Not good when you're paying these sort of prices for average food. Staff looked miserable and when we asked for some more tea the woman didn't even respond, just nodded her head. Unacceptable.

On the plus side, the food was nice enough and the tea hot. Lovely decor if a tad grubby. There are seats and tables outside but they're cheap metal things which wobble and make your drinks spill. We won't be back. This place needs to up their game as there are many other lovely places to eat in the town.

The only problem with this place: too much choice on the menu. It took me over 10 minutes to decide on what to have for lunch, and I was extremely pleased with my chicken caesar wrap, and Sumatran coffee cafetiere. The choice of coffees and teas is excellent, and it was good to see various options for "filter coffee" and not just the usual espresso based options.

If you are ever in Hawick or nearby you must pop in for lunch, coffee, or cake.
