We really loved Hawthornbank. Of all the hotels and B&Bs at which we stayed in Scotland over a 2-week period, this was our favorite room. When we stepped into our room, I was taken aback by how nice it was. The bedspread and drapes were striking and dramatic. The owner had not owned the place very long, but he runs a tight ship. Everything was clean and tidy, and breakfast was generous and tasty. We stayed 2 nights. If I had to do it over again, I would have spent more time in Oban. We used Oban mostly as a launching point to Iona, Mull, and Staffa, but Oban was lovely in its own right. Hawthornbank is highly recommended. We definitely would stay there again.
