We have rented this house many times over the past 9 years and, unlike other rental properties, each time the owners have improved the accommodation in some way though it was perfect the first time we stayed! The high ceilings and features are reminiscent of another era yet the house has been updated to make it comfortable and warm. The everhot (aga) cooker provides constant warmth and is actually very easy to cook with once tamed. The house is incredibly well equipped with nice touches such as picnic tupperware, flask etc. There is enough crockery and cutlery and equipment to start a John Lewis store and thankfully always the essentials such as T-towels, J cloths etc. We recommend paying the small additional fee to have linen and towels included as someone really knows how to iron and it smells divine. This year small changes had been made to the bathrooms, the beds remained as comfortable as ever - nothing like sipping a cup of tea and looking out over the loch and surrounding hills and there were a few new items of furniture. The wifi also worked well. The surrounding area provides excellent walking from the door. The local hotel serves food (can't comment - addicted to the everhot) but also has an excellent and welcoming bar. Apparently the local drink is whisky - who knew? Many visitors comment in the visitors book that the house is a home from home and I think this describes it well. It feels nothing like a 'holiday home' because of the attention to detail and I understand that the owners regularly stay themselves which perhaps accounts for the feeling of extra care having been taken to provide all that one might need. The log fire and chandelier give the house a Downton Abbey feel and there is certainly a feeling of space everywhere. We had the maximum 9 people staying and I didn't see a soul for hours at a time ( turned out they were in the pub). You do need a car but rental is easily available from rail station or airport. There are good supermarkets etc. in Oban or Loch Gilpead (both about 20 mins) though we have found that the very small local shops sell excellent local produce and meat, fish etc. without the need to trek too far. I thought twice before reviewing this property quite so well - I'd like to keep it for myself but I really can't fault it. It is the only place we have returned to again and again and we are veterans of rental properties all over the UK. This is the best without a doubt. I have never met the owners but they are a delight to deal with, fair, honest and really helpful and they employ a local caretaker who is always on hand should you need anything and the house is spotlessly cleaned. Can't recommend it enough.....
