My husband and I stayed here last night whilst visiting our daughter who is studying at Cardiff uni. I booked online and was not sure what to expect. We couldn't believe our luck! Our room turned out to be a suite with an enormous bathroom. The view over Cardiff was amazing. The lovely sofas and comfy sofas were heavenly. The service was outstanding, especially the lovely lady on reception and Tim, the WONDERFUL barman!!
All in all, a fabulously relaxing break. I have already started nagging my husband to come back!
Thank you to everyone at New House.

I was an usher as part of my friends wedding which consisted of around 80-100 guests.

The hotel is set overlooking Cardiff and the Bristol Channel, surrounded by rolling hills and country side making this an ideal location for a really special day.

The staff were all excellent. Everyone knew their job and all performed well. The Marquee was gorgeous as was the area where the ceremony was held. Food was spot on as were the cheerful staff serving it and pouring the pints behind the bar.

Accommodation was spacious, clean and well equipped with tea, coffee etc. Plenty of handy bits and bobs and toiletries in the bathroom. We had a nice sitting area where we enjoyed some room service looking out on the views of the fountain and country side out side.

Breakfast was great. Choice of welsh specialities such as lava bread, mussels etc as well as continental buffet along with the usual cooked breakfast which was excellent quality. Serving staff were very friendly and nothing was too much for them.

Hotel in general was tastefully decorated.
Lots of art in keeping with the character of the house. Plenty of big comfy sofas in the lounge areas. Fresh flowers all over which is a really nice touch, as was the courtesy call from the manager asking if we wanted our room cleaning.

Free wifi is an added bonus along with the large flat screen tv in our room.

Believe the hotel has a gym but after the skinfull I had at the wedding was in no fit state to use it.

Final thanks to the young lady (think she might have been called Natalie) who made sure everything at the wedding ran smoothly. Good service and professionalism is very rare these days and I'll definately be reccomending the hotel and venue to others!

We have just returned home after another 3 day break at this Hotel. Our last visit was February this year. The location is stunning, even on a cloudy day it has such a Vista. We had requested a room that we have used before - unfortunately there was a problem with that room when we arrived and we were upgraded immediately to a suite. The staff are the kindest most considerate of the many Hotels we have stayed in and we are prolific mid week breakers being retired for some years. If we just want a break and we don't want to travel too far this is the Hotel we would choose as we only live 50 minutes away. Apart from the location, the food at the Hotel is first class and service is spot on. We shall return and will thoroughly enjoy the "new" Library as it was being refurbished while we were there, without any inconvenience to guests I would add.

Room Tip: As this hotel is set in tranquil surrounding I would imagine all rooms would be as quiet as the two...

The hotel is just to the north of Cardiff. We were glad to have used the hotel's sat nav instructions (not their post code) as it would have been hard to find coming from Severn Bridge. The location is very pleasant, the hotel is in its own grounds overlooking fields with the city beyond, so it is quiet without traffic noise. It may describe itself as a country house hotel, but it doesn't get away from the "chain" hotel feel.

We had a "light" evening meal, normally served in the bar but which we took in the dining room - it was nicely cooked and served. The main dinner menu looked very expensive for the setting, well decorated but not extra-special.

We were given room 7, down stairs and along winding corridors. It was the furthest away room, and painting and decorating were going on in this part of the hotel so we felt like the unwanted relatives. It was a large, rather soulless room, but the big bathroom was well appointed with robes, and bath products etc. The room was fully equiped with tea and coffee making, ironing board etc. The bed was zipped and linked twin beds, but not the most comfortable mattresses and a bit creaky. We had a view of the countryside and Cardiff from the french window. In the morning we were woken at 8am by the sound of ladies talking and laughing loudly - we thought it must be a hen party, but later we discovered they were the housekeeping staff. As we walked to breakfast all the doors were open to the rooms adjacent to ours, and they were not bedrooms but storerooms for linen, paint and goodness-knows-what. It really made us feel we had been bunged in a room at the far end of everything.

Breakfast redemed the hotel. There was the usual cold buffet, and breakfast cooked to order, all very hot and tasty, and plenty of it. The two waiting staff, a young man and a young lady, were just lovely. I heard the girl talking to a returning customer, an elderly lady, and she struck just the right note of kindness and service, she was a credit to the hotel.

If I needed to return to Cardiff, I would consider this hotel as it was quiet and in a pleasant setting.

Room Tip: If you want a king size bed phone the hotel, because they are not necessarily listed on booking webs...

Stumbled upon this hotel by accident for a 2night stay for a business trip as it was in the right area of Cardiff. The location and setting with views of the Caerphilly Hills is wonderful and yet there is an easy access to Cardiff city centre approx 30 mins drive away.

Lovely traditional bedrooms with lovely views of rolling hills - outstanding food in both restaurant and bar - just a nice feeling all around.

I've had to mark the sleep quality as average as the hall and stairs were being painted and the smell of paint was most unpleasant and perhaps they could have told me and given an option of another room as this gave me a headache!

Cannot wait to go back!
