I would say just go ahead and book it if visiting Cardiff. It's on St. Mary's Street, which is the prime location for clubs, restaurants, bars and shopping district of Cardiff.
We had booked 5 rooms for 9 friends for a night who had arrived in the hotel early Friday morning. All of us waited for around 2 hours and by 11am-12 noon- we were allocated our twin rooms. Till that time, all of us logged on to work from the hotel's spacious bar area.
Internet speed is great and it's free.
Room was spacious, clean bed linens, good sized bathroom, clean toiletries.
Car Park is the nearby NCP Car Park, and get the ticket validated at the hotel for discounted prices.
Breakfast in the morning is awesome, all selection available.

The only issue for deducting a star is in my room the air con was not working and it was a hot sunny day (30 degrees excess) and it was quite hot. The air cons in all other rooms was working. The hotel gave me a fan, which was a right but it was hot. My room number was Room 408, so better avoid this room. This was a deluxe room at a higher price by the way. Also ITV signal was not there on the TV in this room and rest rooms had no issues with the channel. Football world cup was on that day on ITV. So better avoid Room 408.

Anyways, barring the air con issue you cannot point any other service issue with the hotel.

4/5 go for it when in Cardiff. Great for a boy's night out or a bachelor / hen's party.

Our third visit to the royal, previously we stayed in a standard room which was nice however the deluxe rooms are bigger and with all the extras you get we think the upgrade is worth the extra cost. The staff are all very friendly. We will always go back to the royal when visiting Cardiff.

Room Tip: Deluxe room

Stayed here for a concert at principality Stadium, location was perfect. Upon arrival we climbed 4 sets of stairs, which was hard work. Once at check in, was told there was a lift. Check in was straightforward and friendly.
The room was clean, lovely and spacious, with an added nice touch of an Ed Sheeran mug whose concert we were there for. Bed was very comfy, heard slight noise from revellers as on Main Street. But, still slept well. Supplied free earplugs, which we didn’t use. Bathroom was lovely and clean, shower was a bit disappointing had to have it on full heat which reduced pressure. But, ok. Was a bit disappointed no kettle in room, but as was a very hot weekend just had water. Air conditioning was nice to cool the room. Would defo stay here again

We were here for the Rolling Stones concert. The Royal is the closet hotel to the stadium which is very helpful given the number of concert goers. It is right in the middle of town and convenient to the castle and the shopping and restaurants. Our room was rather small and basic. The HVAC system worked very well and the room was quiet. The bathroom was the same - very basic.
The staff make up for the lack of amenities. They are very helpful and efficient and interact wonderfully with each other.
I would recommend this hotel largely due to the location.

We stayed here for the last night of Ed Sheeran's UK tour and staying here made our overall experience even better! The effort made for those going to see the concert was amazing from the cardboard cut outs to have a selfie with to the Ed mugs in the rooms! The staff were super friendly and helpful. Huge thanks to Marcus on reception who actually booked us in and out. You had a lot of Ed fans over the weekend but didn't mind hearing us ramble on about him!

Down to the basics, the room was lovely and clean and had everything you could need for a city break! The bar was lovely and comfortable, very useful as the rest of the city was extremely busy. We didn't stay for breakfast but the room was set up beautifully and professionally. 100% recommend staying here, I know I will again!
