I had booked the Spa package through Spa breaks, it included lunch and a 90 minute treatment. All the staff were lovely, really helpful. The lunch was amazing! I had the fish cake and chocolate desert. Apparently they've just had a new chef, he is excellent! The 90 minute treatment we had was also great. Jo explained the full treatment, facial for 60 mins and 30 min back and neck message- it was one of the best massages I've ever had, I felt thoroughly pampered. We also used the gym, and pool, which were OK, but nothing special.

When we arrived at this hotel we couldn't believe how lovely it looked - but on going inside it is very dated. Our room was in desperate need of re-decoration. Holes in the walls, the curtain hanging down, the bed was really old. The Bathroom - shower was awful - we never did manage to get it working properly and again holes in the walls and dirty corners on the floor. Dirty carpets. Also, we were facing the front of the hotel and underneath there were ashtray bins - we were kept awake at night with people standing outside and talking and laughing until the early hours - also we could smell the smoke and as we are non-smokers it was very unpleasant.
The view, however, was lovely and the pool and gym were excellent.

Room Tip: Ask for one that has been recently decorated !!

Attended a wedding at this venue and a good time was had by all, in the process of renovations but our room was gorgeous being one already done the staff were marvellous polite and well presented and couldn't have done more for all of us, the wedding tables were beautiful and the Bride and Groom very happy, also beautiful grounds the entrance off the main road could do with widening but l believe this to be on the agenda and also has a spa.

Room Tip: Cottage rooms lovely and spacious

Stayed at the end of march with my boyfriend who was the one that booked the hotel. So glad we went! Pictures on trip advisor and booking.com seem old and don't show the beauty of the hotel and location. Grounds are exceptional! However we did have an issue with the room. Went to reception and asked if we could switch rooms however receptionist seemed reluctant and unsure about giving us one. A lady working there overheard the conversation and came over to help. She was very polite and understanding about our situation. She was extremely efficient and couldn't do enough for us. I believe she was one of the managers there. We were placed into another room which was exceptional. Very clean, tidy and pleasant. We later had a meal and a drink which was served by the same lady that helped us earlier on. This was very surprising as we didn't expect her to be working on bar as well. She was extremely busy that night but made more than a few trips to our table to check if the food was ok and to see if we wanted anymore drinks. Food and service was great! We started talking later on that evening with the lady and she introduced herself as Sian. She was very friendly and we got to know her very well as she got to know us. It was surprising after learning of her past jobs, maturity and general approach to life that she was working on the bar and not doing so much more. However she had nothing bad to say about the hotel and could only promote the job and everyone she worked with. She seemed to truly love her job which isn't very common in this day and age. She was very easy to talk with and very approachable. We mentioned about wanting drinks late that night and she said generally the bar closed at 11pm however she would be happy to keep the bar open longer if we wanted her to. We left the bar about 11:30pm which was late enough for us as we had places to go the next day and we were very thankful. She also mentioned that she would be in the next night and that if we wanted drinks late again just to let her know and she would be happy to keep it open which both me and my partner were taken aback by, no one has ever offered to do something like that for us at any other hotel we have stayed at, if you want to be looked after and treated with respect then this is the hotel to stay at. The new decor is stunning and modern, very fitting for a place with such elegance.

The next day we went down for breakfast. The food was filling and delicious! The staff were efficient and very friendly. Our food arrived quickly which suited us as we didn't have much time before we were due to be somewhere. The spread for continental was great and everything on the table was continually checked and replenished. The room looked elegant and very stylish however it was rather bright in there.

Before we left for the day we spoke to the receptionist to see if we could leave the keys behind. She said that it was no problem and she would do it right away. Once again we started chatting, the receptionist seemed very bubbly and upbeat. I believe that morning her name was Hannah. She was very polite and offered her assistance if we ever needed it.

The last night there was just as excellent. Sian kept the bar open longer for us which was great! The food was outstanding once again! And the stay was great! We will definitely be returning in the future and recommending for others to stay also.

Thank you to all the staff at St Mellons hotel who made our stay special.
