I booked this hotel for £75 on Groupon for a one night stay to have a break having not been away since March.
We arrived and there was Virtually no Covid precautions- No plastic Screen at Reception or masks on staff.(who were all young kids) Went to room- instant smell of Damp- Dirty window frame- which wouldnt close. The cushions and chairs were threadbare and there was a stain on the Bedding, The bed was a cheap metal bed but we didnt stick around. We had to book into another hotel who had already had guests from this hotel with the same problem. Basically carpets and whole demeanour of hotel is unkept, damp and cheap. We had a Groupon for £75 Deal DBB so didnt expect 4 star but this was really like a hostel- great if you know thats what you want but not when classed as a 4 star TA Hotel???? I can only assume all their friends get onto Trip advisor. We didnt go back even for our prepaid evening meal as I can only assume the standards would be like the room.So we lost our £75 as was told we had to go back to Groupon- who said it was upto the hotel- but I was prepared to lose the £75 to enjoy my break somewhere else. Totally bad FB and Website information.

The service and home-cooked food we had were excellent bearing in mind this is a pub. The location was fantastic being right by the Bridge, as the name suggests, in the center of Betws y Coed. Drinks-wise this pub has cask ales as well as a good selection of other wines and spirits.

We decided to have dinner here, and although the food and drinks were nice, we were disappointed to find out (mid-meal) that they do not offer a no smoking area in their under cover outdoor seating area. It hasn’t occurred to me to ask about none-smoking areas as the pub does food and no one was smoking at the time we were seated.

However, as a table of 4 next to us were seated, they immediately lit up with no regard for the fact we were midway through our main course. I asked the waitress if we could move to a no smoking area as smokers were seemingly dotted all around the place at this point, but we were told they don’t offer that option. The beer garden has cover from the elements which is great, but as the smoke billowed up, it quickly shot back down again and spread across our table, had we not have been starving after climbing Snowdon, we would’ve grabbed the bill and left half way through.

I understand the need to cater for all, but as we are all having to sit outside these days, and your staff are working outside for most of their shift, it seems only fair that you should cater for both smokers and none-smokers. We decided not to have dessert or any more drinks and cut our evening short. Fortunately the Y Stablau just up the road offers a smoke-free environment so we had dessert and spent the remainder of the night there. A small change to the layout and having a designated smoking free area could make this a pleasant place to down an evening.

Had an excellent meal here. Due to covid they’ve had to half their menu, but the food we had (steak pie/ fish & chips/ pan fried seabass) was all delicious! Friendly staff & owners. The waitress had her first night and it was busy, so there was a bit of a wait, but chef Sonja‘s food was well worth the wait.

To walk into the hotel room, to see a blood stein on the bed sheet, holes in the walls, a toilet which was down the corridor, not next to the room (which we were not informed of), and also random steins across the walls, we were absolutely disgusted to say the least. The receptionist granted was friendly, yet no refund or any consolation for the disgraceful room was offered. Will never be going back again.
