Just spent four days here, in room 30 to be exact, which is tucked away behind the pub, with it's own outside staircase entrance. It sits above the dining room, and one window overlooks an inner courtyard, which houses tables for those who wish to eat or drink outside, and the other window overlooks a flat roof that houses the kitchen extractor fan.
Despite concerns that there maybe noise issues, the windows are double glazed and we found the room quiet. The room with en-suite is huge, but best of all, cleanliness was spot on. I appreciated that the mattress and pillows had washable protectors on. Biscuits, tea, and towels all replaced daily. The bed was very comfortable.
What of the food? It serves good pub food, but nothing special. Portion sizes were good, with plenty of options for breakfast. My only gripe was that my breakfast was served on a cool plate one morning, so was cold before I finished it. All of the staff, both European and local were exceptionally hard working and extremely pleasant and welcoming. The local beer is good. We opted for free parking with the inns permit at the castles car park just a 5 minute walk away, having been told cars get bumped in the £5 car park next to the inn. This is a busy Inn. Don’t expect a quiet sleepy hotel. The bustle all added to the appeal. Great time. Thanks!

The bustle of the Inn does indeed make its character work and retain the by now rare feeling of a real Inn. Thank you for the review.

Stayed at the Black Boy on the last Friday and and Saturday of September.Had a single room and it was lovely,a bit small but more than adequate,it had ensuite, television, tea making facilities, basically all you needed for you're stay.I opted for the bed and breakfast,Satarday I had fruits and yoghurt and Manx kippers which were lovely and Sunday the Welsh breakfast which again was lovely, the service in the restraint was great.
The hotel has also a must visit bar which is a must visit for all visitors.
Caernarfon is a town that is seeing a lot of money being spent there recently and is a must visit place with its castle and railways, etc, etc.
Great visit,thanks John and staff.

Fabulous historic inn. Had eaten there before but this was our first stay. Had a lovely night in one of the 4 poster rooms. Very well appointed. Staff extremely welcoming and attentive throughout our stay. Breakfast high quality food and plentiful. Only slight down side, Room was directly over the bar and the complementary ear plugs were a sign that we should expect noise. Would suggest that next time they are refurbishing they consider acoustic underlay. It makes a huge difference . Would certainly return but would ask for a room in one of the quieter parts.

We a little put off that we were placed in Black Jack's out back, rather than the Inn itself, but our room (42) was really a little apartment, very spacious and the bed was very comfy, easy to adjust the heat. Good wi-fi, lots of outlets, spacious bath. Breakfasts were nice, and there are two bars--we watched Wales play in a World cup qualifier in one with some locals, which was fun. Fine restaurant in the Inn (will review separately).

We went here for late lunch. Managed to get a table straight away which was lucky cos normally really busy. Food was absolutely delicious. I had Lobscow ( a beef stew) huge portions, very tasty food. In fact all the food we had whilst on holiday in Wales was really lovely. Service very good.
