Atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the staff friendly. Our starters of chicken liver parfait and mussels in cream and white wine were light and tasty. However, the main courses were far too big and heavy. My partner's pork belly on a bed of chorizo and chickpeas would have fed a family of four for a week; at least our server offered to pack it up so that we could take it home. My fish and chips with mushy peas, was a beautiful lump of deep fried hake, again far too large a portion, wedges and crushed petit pois. NB: these are NOT mushy peas. The desserts were unremarkable.
A good selection of beers was available.

We went here twice here in August for lunch. Both times my partner had the fish cakes and I had the pork belly and then the crayfish salad. All were excellent and the service was friendly and efficient. A cut above the average pub grub. It has recently changed hands so we hope the quality will be maintained. It is also a gorgeous old pub and feels homely.

Villages surrounding Salisbury typically have a excellent pubs, which are popular and welcoming. The Silver Plough in Pitton is no exception. Located right in the heart of the pretty village, there is bags of outside seating for hot and sunny days, but pleasant interior too, if the weather is less than clement. Very friendly staff and nice varied menu that caters for the ravenous , as well as those with less hearty appetites. Burgers are excellent and varied and the snack sizes verge of the extremely generous, capable of satisfying the hungriest of diners. Good range of Hall and Woodhouse beers. always full of flavour and offering variety.
Great walks in the area mean that a lunch and a drink can be enjoyed without feeling guilty about calorie intake. Another pub to add to the list of regular haunts in the Wiltshire countryside.

The name "silver plough " mentioned in conversation anywhere in a fifteen mile radius of the pub and people would acknowledge a superior place to go
Having visited last Wednesday with friends I had not seen for eight years it seemed a special halfway house meeting point.
Unfortunately the extremely limited menue was an A4 well used piece of paper with a very disappointing list of expensive but below average findings
Two of us had ham eggs and chips, how simple? A massive single slice of 30% fat and the rest tough and gristle with six skin on wedges, the other two wanting vegetarian options were told we can do you an omelette or you can have chick peas with goats cheese, with insulting results
The desert was nice but for six pounds was way over priced
Sorry but all Wetherspoons will put you to shame and for £89.00 we could go out twice and have change, I hope the new owners wake up to this!!

I appreciate this is under new management - but as they told us on our arrival they have considerable experience...

It is set in a lovely spot on the edge of Pitton near Salisbury, Wiltshire with reasonable parking - though somewhat narrow spaces in this day of more and larger vehicles, and a great, well tended little garden for nicer weathered days.

The Silver Plough is an old and very interesting building with white walls, ceiling beams, knickknacks on the ceiling, wooden floors and a good 'feel' on entering.
This pub with a main room, separate 'restaurant' area - though most eat in the main room and snug or outside and there is also a separate skittle alley that can be hired out. It also has accommodation within the property.

Our early midday arrival found only a few customers already in but the staff seemed somewhat stressed due to 'whatever' and were not as warm and welcoming as you might expect based on previous visits here before this new management.
There seemed to be a shortage of staff, which could explain the stressed impression and slow service.
We ordered our drinks and got a table which was comfortable enough and ordered some food.

Prices have risen since previous visits but as with anywhere you are prepared to pay a bit more if the quality is there. In the past in different places we have had superb food at little cost and awful food costing a lot.

In this case we agreed the sirloin steaks were nicely cooked but the cut of meat was somewhat sinewy and fatty which detracted from their potential of being small but great steaks.
The potato wedges were cooked like chips and apart from some really hard and brittle ones were very tasty as was the simple salad and sauce Bearnaise.
If you are a big eater - there is not enough for you and at just short of £20 this is not worth it.

We had different puddings and can recommend both the chocolate whiskey cup - though a hint more whiskey would be appreciated since it is in the name of the dish, and the pavlova was really good.

Despite the criticisms the overall meal was certainly nice but the prices charged were not justified in light of 'competition' - i.e. what you may pay for the same in similar places elsewhere.

A big surprise was a view of the Sunday lunch meals seeing a leg of chicken was £13:00, yes - just a leg and I can buy whole chickens locally for under £5:00 - OK I then have to cook it BUT £13:00 for a leg... come on!!!!!??????

For that price I would expect something rather spectacular but based on my comments above wouldn't expect it to actually appear!

A review of their own menu (nice range) and prices (compare with others and what is physically on offer) would be good.

Cleanliness was reasonable but could have been better considering the lack of customers in place at this time and as written the management is new and still finding their feet but as with any place customers and their views are actually important and I've given my 3 penny worth!

We will ask friends and neighbours what they think of the changes (we are fairly local) and consider visiting again depending on their feedback or just for a drink to see what has changed for the better!
