I'd first come across the Symphony Hall on a walk through the ICC several years ago. My father in law managed to persuade a kind security guard to show us inside briefly while there was no show. The guard explained about the acoustic tools with such knowledge and pride that I've been keen to see something there since.
We went to see the fantastic Sheryl Crow supported by Colin MaCleod. Colin played a guitar on his own and those acoustics came to play. We were right on the back row but our view of the stage was clear and the sound Crystal clear. It did take a little while for the girls to adapt to the height up in the gods though!
This was the first gig that our 9 & 12 year old daughters had been to and I'm glad that we went to a venue like this which is well spread out. Despite being full the bar areas were never crowded. I'd always expect a bit of exuberance at a big but didn't have any particular worries about the girls being with us - it was hardly crazy. That said there was a great atmosphere at a wonderful gig.
The staff were all friendly and helpful and there are loads of eateries nearby. 15 minute walk from New Street with children.
