Have stayed in other Motel One properties around Germany/Austria/etc and this one follows the brand as expected. Staff were excellent - very friendly and helpful! Other highlights of the hotel are the convenient city center location and the cozy, spacious lounge areas, including a sunny outdoor terrace. Easy walk to the train and bus stations for day trips outside the city and the room was reasonably quiet considering the many bars/pubs in the neighborhood. Speaking of which, especially on weekends, the area is *very* busy with nightlife, some slightly shady characters included...all places have bouncers but just keep an eye on purses/pockets/etc.
Room itself was on the small side, although it had a nice big bed, 180cm king. Despite being a fairly new hotel, the one negative was that the room could have used a bit of freshening up - the carpet was quite dirty and both it and the chairs were stained in multiple places.
In any case, a fairly standard Motel One (which is a good thing!) and a very handy spot to explore the many sights in Newcastle and the surrounding area.More
