We stayed at Close House as a stop while walking Hadrian's Wall path, which was a mistake. It's very far from the actual wall path, and not a place for dirty, muddy hikers, who are walking up to the hotel. You really need a car to get here, and the reception area, restaurant and hotel are a good kilometer or more from the road. The grounds are beautiful, and likely a fabulous place to stay for a golfing holiday. The restaurant was nice, food pretty good, and breakfast was delicious, with a beautiful view of the course from the outside patio seating area. Service at check-in was really bad, and not at all helpful.More
