We stayed here for Magic Weekend at St James’ Park so first and foremost the location is what attracted us to this hotel, it was great being so close! Upon arrival the decor in the reception/lobby was very unique which gave the hotel a young modern feel. We checked in swiftly and went straight to our room. The room was on the small side but it was presentable and comfortable. The only fault we noted about the room was some of the white walls were stained near the bed (looked like vomit) which was highly offputting. Beside this, everything else was nice clean everyday during our stay. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel, location is amazing for the stadium but also very very close to the centre of Newcastle!

Dear jadewalker26,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay; it's greatly appreciated.

We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay as well as our central location. May we recommend one of the suite category rooms should you choose to visit again. You might find a Studio more spacious.

I have shared your feedback regarding the cleanliness of the room with the relevant departmental managers.

We hope to welcome you back in the future.

This is the 3rd time I've stayed here and haven't got a bad word to say about the place. The staff bend over backwards to help you and the rooms are lovely. The hotel bar is always busy but you don't need to wait long to get served. Will definitely be back.

Stains on carpet. No proper doors between rooms just noisy sliding glass panels. Kids not allowed in hotel bar / restaurant after 7pm. It's a sports bar and it's certainly not for eating of families. Would not recommend coming here as a family.

I had looked forward to the 'suite' but discovered that in fact it was a small room with very little space around the bed. The main problem was the lack of maintenance. Bedrooms are quite simply battered. One can see that the Sandman started life as being upmarket. That has now gone the other way compelely. At check in all I could see was hen parties and very young couples in trackies. The place has gone to the dogs. Breakfast was laid out in the grubby sports bar which had been hammered the previous night. All in all, I feel the website hides the reality of the place. It doesn't do what it says on the tin. 3 stars would be a more appropriate rating.

Stayed here for one night in May.
We had booked a Junior Suite but were upgraded to an Executive Suite.
I wouldn't have wanted to see what the Junior Suite is like.

Pros:
- Staff were very friendly and helpful. One in particular, Kelly, came outside to direct us towards the car park and upgraded us.
- The location is good. Only a short walk to Eldon Square and Northumberland Street.

Cons:
- We paid an additional £11.95 pp for Breakfast. Not value for money.
- The layout of the Executive Suite was poor and there was nothing "Executive" about it. A large kitchen (not needed) but a small main bedroom.
- Air con unit was extremely loud. Staff brought up a different one that was much better.
- Sofa bed in living room would not fold out and staff could not fix it.

I get the impression the staff are aware that upgrades are needed to the hotel and so they are having to go above and beyond with their customer service.

Would not stay here again.
