(+) We had a short one night stay here when we were visiting some folks in Guildford. The hotel was very charming, lovely wallpaper in the rooms, comfortable bed. Got a good night's sleep.

(-) Bathrooms are a bit tiny.

I stayed for 2 nights in this hotel. I had a very spacious and light room on the ground floor. All staff were very pleasant and helpful. I ate in the hotel both nights and the food was excellent. It’s in a great location for exploring Guildford.

We had a two night break in Guildford. This is a gorgeous hotel is in a perfect location for easy access to the attractions of the town. Our room was bright, comfortable and immaculately presented. We had dinner at the hotel on our first night. The food was delicious and perfectly cooked. Our charming waitress was delightful and gave us perfect attention. Our breakfast the following morning was very poor. This would have been better if it had been cooked to order rather than standing in a bain marie. This experience could have spoiled an otherwise perfect break, but the delightful staff on reception acknowledged our disappointment and reduced our Bill according. This hotel is a real gem and one that we will definitely return to.

Rooms not at all as shown on website. They are tired, with sunken, overused mattresses, poor decor and finishings and NO A/C! We were v hot all the time - and v disappointed. Management know this is a problem as they supply desk fans - entirely inadequate! No fan/ventialtion in room or bathroom. Housekeeping poor and hotel approach is very stingy. Triple rooms did not have enough towels. One packet of biscuits for a room of 3. Toiletries in short supply. No point raving about your supply of Molton Brown toiletries if there are not enough to go around the number of people sharing a room! Plus, not replenished?! Had to push reception to give us more of these! Breakfast average. Cooked food greasy, coffee was not filter, granules were used. In keeping with the overall cheapness of the hotel, this was weak and tastless. Encountered v rude receptionist Sandra who entered into a fight with us when we challenged incorrect payment advice given to us by a colleague. Appalling customer service! Quite how or why Conde Nast associate themselves with this poor property is beyond my comprehension. This is not a boutique hotel in any sense! It must qualify as a 4* on account of its conferencing facilities etc, because I would rate it as no more than a 3* and would ABSOLUTELY NOT recommend it.

Nadine, in thanking you for your review I feel it necessary to offer a few words in response in the interests of honest balance

It is not unusual for hoteliers to be 'threatened' with poor reviews unless certain demands are met. That you would sell your integrity for as little as free parking does you very little credit, however, The Mandolay Hotel never responds to threats irrespective of the value of the ultimatum.

In concluding this response I offer the following fact, and in doing so I will leave users of this site to judge for themselves how honest they feel your review to be.

Nadine extended her stay at The Mandolay Hotel by two additional nights.

Booked a suite at this hotel and it was a great location for an evening out in Guildford . parking was a bit of a nightmare .
Service was very good .
My room was a suite in the roof , lovely big room but poorly equipped.
Cheap poor quality furniture , with a small TV in the middle of the room ., no comfy chairs , shame as its the only thing that lets it down.

Thanks for your review.

There are two parking options at the hotel, pre-reserved or pay and display. In addition to the 40+ spaces on site there are some 1,100 spaces within five minutes drive of the hotel, I am sorry that you were not made aware of these alternatives and I will ask the Reception Manager to speak with the team.

Thanks again for the 4* review, I hope that you will come and stay with us again soon.
