Description: Drapers Hall is a fine dining restaurant with rooms nestled right in the heart of Shrewsbury town centre. It is one of Shropshire’s great buildings. After 18 successful years, Head chef and owner Nigel Huxley sold the business to Edward and Louise Taylor. The new team headed by Robert Jones, chef Richard Nair and Paul are here to make your experience in such wonderful surroundings a memorable one. Our passion is quality. With new bone china plates, fine glasses and handmade cutlery to showcase our incredible organic meats and wild game from the Rhug estate near Llangollen, shellfish from Anglesea, award winning British cheeses with hand picked wines to compliment every dish on the menu, even our coffee is roasted to order locally. The restaurant boasts an impressive oak panelled dining hall which leads into a quaint buttery area, accommodating diners looking for a more intimate experience. The contemporary bar area serves snacks and cocktails next to the open log fire.

Four of us went for a special occasion.First we were left standing in the foyer. Shown to a refectory table which was high and the chairs were low. We found cushions for raising the height. After nearly half an hour we were given a menu. We all chose the tasting menu and wine flight. The food was awful, overcooked and had been kept under heat as some of it had a skin. The wines were mostly acceptable. They seriously have to rethink the ability of the chef for a tasting menu. £300 that I regret spending.

The first thing to note is that this review is based on attending the annual Drapers guest dinner so probably not a full-fledged review as if booking a table and having a private dinner. That said, it was a very nice experience and I would return there as a paying customer. The facilities are beautiful, the food was fantastic and the service was very attentive. The only reason for the four stars instead of five was the acoustics in the room were horrible. Not the fault of the restaurants but something to note. It was very difficult to hold a conversation when there were several going on around you. Regardless of that I would definitely return to the restaurant and would recommend it to anyone looking for a special evening out.

Went with a couple of friends and we had an excellent evening. Not only do then recommend the tonic to go with the gin you have selected but from the moment you arrive until you leave, you are so well looked after and the food is perfect, cooked just as requested and service and attention to detail cannot be faulted. Thank you for an wonderful event. This is definitely a fine dining experience.

I visited Drapers late September and had the 6 course taster menu with chosen wine to complement each course. Every detail so well catered for, I will definitely be coming back for a special occasion. This has to be the best place to eat in Shrewsbury.

We were only in Shrewsbury for one night and we were glad to have found this restaurant. The atmosphere on arrival was lovely. We chose our wine from a good wine list and a knowledgeable server and had it placed on our table to go with our main course. The food was excellent and the service throughout was impeccable. If I visit this area again I will most definitely return.
