Owner description: Ludlow Castle is an unusually complete range of medieval buildings with a varied history evident within its walls. We are host to a number of events that run between April and November, information of which is available at the local tourist information centre and on our website. Castle House was one of the last grand mansions built in Ludlow. It was sympathetically restored in 2006 by the current Earl of Powis and provides a range of Independent shops, Tea Rooms with an idyllic outside terrace during the summer months; function rooms that are available for civil ceremonies, weddings, parties, wakes, meetings The 3 no. self catering apartments are available for 3, 4 and 7 night stays. All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, well equipped kitchens and sitting/dining rooms and views of the castle that are unparalleled. The Tea Room is a traditional English tea room with a glazed Courtyard, Pantry, Study and Garden Terrace. It is child and dog friendly with a welcoming and enthusiastic team, serving something for everyone. There are loose-leaf teas, cafeteria coffees, fresh juices and quality wines. A range of freshly prepared cakes and cream teas are available all day. There is a lovely walk around the outside of the castle where you are surrounded by natural woodland and outstanding views of the castle walls, River Teme and Whitcliffe Common.

This is a lovely castle that has more to see than initially thought. Some areas are in great shape and you can really feel the history around you. The view from the top of the tower both over the river and the town are lovely. Even on a murky day we got some lovely photos.

The ticket prices are reasonable. I would recommend buying a guide of the castle with your ticket to really give an insight into what you are seeing. The cheaper guide points out some interesting hidden facts that the information boards don't cover.

We spent a good three hours wandering around and exploring Ludlow Castle. It was great to be able to explore and climb up some of the tours and as it was sunny we had a nice picnic in the outer courtyard.

The map on the back of the ticket was helpful to help us imagine what was going on and what life was like, but Information about the castle and the rooms we were in around the castle itself was sparse and there were many times where we didn’t really know what we were looking at.

Really enjoyed visiting though.

We visited as a mixed family group with dogs too. Dog friendly, provided they are on leads with dog water near the exit.

Our favourite part of the visit was the ability for us to explore and be up close to most parts of the castle and grounds. Unlike some other castle trips where many parts are roped off. We loved being able to touch and climb and explore the history.

A few more signposts and information would have been nice...although we had read a little bit before our trip.

Disappointing to see so many mentions of the grounds being muddy. This wasn't an issue for us, it's an outdoor activity after all and Spring weather has been a mixed bag. Wear boots or wellies and enjoy a fascinating insight to the local history.

Ludlow town was lovely to mooch around too...particularly when the market is on in the square outside the castle.
