Description: Opened in 1994 and now under the ownerships of Manager Alistair Myers and Chef Tom Lawson Rafters has long been accepted as one of Sheffield's finest restaurants. The combination of the highly skilled & creative cooking of Tom and the kitchen team partnered with the knowledgeable, friendly and relaxed service of Alistair and the front of house team partners to make the best dining experience possible. Both brought up locally Alistair went to Tapton School where he did his work placement at the Forte Post house and has been hooked on the catering industry ever since.Leaving school at 16 to pursue his chosen career in a work based modern apprenticeship Alistair has worked in some of the best Hotels and Restaurants in Sheffield and the surrounding area learning his trade always with the ultimate ambition of opening his own restaurant one day. Tom started cooking at the age of 13 when he was first introduced to the highly regarded Sheffield College for a one week cookery course in the summer holidays whilst at High Storrs. It was this initial introduction that sparked his passion and ultimately led him back to Sheffield College where he completed his Professional Chefs diploma and was named college chef of the year. After leaving college Tom has worked at the highest level in Restaurants and Pubs in Sheffield and the surrounding area, maintaining and gaining local, regional & national recognition wherever he has cooked. Working together for the past 5 years it is the shared vision that dining is about the whole experience and not just the kitchen or dining room that brought Alistair & Tom together to embark on the journey of running their own restaurant working together as one team with the goal always being to delight and satisfy the customer.

Me and a friend had the tasting menu with wine paring.
The food was delicious and the wine really fit each dish so well.
The service was excellent and the staff really friendly.
The story behind all the different wines was really interesting.

I will return for sure!

I will come back for sure!
This is one of those fancy restaurants however the customer service is friendly and you don't feel like you have to be posh just to walk in :)

A group of us recently visited here for a family birthday meal on a Saturday evening. The restaurant is upstairs above a selection of shops which means there isn't much parking available, however we were lucky and found a spot on the road close by. Inside is small, tastefully decorated in exposed brickwork with tables and a small bar. The restaurant was full and had a lovely atmosphere. It didn't feel full or overcrowded given its size. The dress code was smart / casual. Some female diners wore dresses, others a smart top, skirt or trousers. The male diners wore shirts without ties. Our orders were taken promptly and the service was excellent, very organised and efficient for the entire evening. We opted for the tasting menu as the dishes on this were similar or the same as those on the three course menu. We felt ordering this would provide us with more opportunity to taste the cuisine on offer. A small amouche bouche was provided of quails egg and smoked eel to sample both were absolutely delicious! The remaining dishes on the tasting menu were also of an excellent quality. A particular favourite of ours was the celeriac dish - a surprise as vegetarian options can be bland but its flavour had been heightened well! We knew from the website that a vegetarian tasting menu was available but this wasn't offered to us and after tasting this dish, I wish it had been. The desert was delicious, packed full of flavour and this made a lovely end to the meal. A cheese board can be ordered but we didn't sample this. However, the list looked extensive and others were indulging and it looked ample in size. Overall, we had a wonderful experience here and would return. We would recommend this establishment for a special occasion dinner for others.

I visited Rafters with a number of friends to celebrate my birthday, and was extremely impressed by the experience all round. We all thoroughly enjoyed the tasting menu, with each perfectly presented dish more delicious than the last. Service was attentive and well timed. A perfect place to celebrate special occasions. Faultless.

Absolutely great meal at Rafters. The food was faultless and the wine to match was paired perfectly. The service was excellent too. The best meal I have had in Sheffield or nearby. I include Fischers and The Old Vicarage in that.
