Description: The Fishes is a hidden gem. Quite a big gem, too. An imposing Victorian building set in acres of wooded grounds leading down to the banks of Seacourt Stream. The deck that wraps around the conservatory offers a rare opportunity in land-locked Oxford to dine outside with an idyllic view. In recognition of this, the Fishes was named Al Fresco Dining Pub of the Year in 2006, as well winner of The Public Vote in Oxfordshire Restaurant awards 2012 making it one of the best restaurants in Oxford.

We chose The Fishes because we would pass through the area at lunchtime. The pub is about a quarter of a mile from the A34 Southbound.

Big car park, lovely, large, lawned garden with trestle tables for better weather. Excellent feeling on entering the pub. Quick, warm welcome. Lots of seating options as rooms lead to each other around the bar. We ate in the bar rather than the restaurant although the menu is the same. Great choice of food. Same with beer and other, stronger tinctures. Service excellent. This is a GREAT pub for eating in!

We will definitely return when in the area but will probably choose to eat in the restaurant because of the garden view.

What lovely staff, and what a nice setting this pub has. We arrived halfway through their typical Saturday lunch service and they were very hospitable and found us a table. We were seated in the conservatory which has nice views down to the stream, comfy seats and was wonderfully warm. Thank goodness, the menu was varied offering a bit of everything for veggies, pescetarians and carnivores. Fish and chips, burger and a steak sandwich later, we were all sated and very happy. A gin genie urged me to order a Gimlet, which served in a beautiful dish glass and at the perfect temperature. One of the best Gimlets I've had, made with a great and often overlooked gin and just the right amount of lime.
Food was good, non fussy and very tasty. Would love to have Sunday lunch here.

We'll be back x

Good menu and ample parking space. In the summer time, the place offers outdoor seating and fantastic view. I would definitely visit again, perhaps in the summer time.

We visited as a group of 4 on 23rd March. It’s been a long time since I’d last visited, but food was just as good. Three of us had the deli boards as a main course; two butchers board and one fish board and all of us would highly recommend these dishes. The service was great and we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Thank you all at The Fishes! We won’t leave it so long next time.
