Description: The Fishes is a hidden gem. Quite a big gem, too. An imposing Victorian building set in acres of wooded grounds leading down to the banks of Seacourt Stream. The deck that wraps around the conservatory offers a rare opportunity in land-locked Oxford to dine outside with an idyllic view. In recognition of this, the Fishes was named Al Fresco Dining Pub of the Year in 2006, as well winner of The Public Vote in Oxfordshire Restaurant awards 2012 making it one of the best restaurants in Oxford.

Came in after a stressful day to be served by a kind bartender who helped me with my choice of gin and asked me about my day. The drink was lovely and so was the service.

Dropped into The Fishes on a long car journey from the south to Yorkshire, passing Oxford, having looked in advance for a dog-friendly place to stop. Great Eggs Royale (poached eggs with smoked salmon and hollandaise on muffins or similar), efficient and pleasant service, water bowls for dogs and a good garden for stretching legs. Would go back. Very handy for the A34, off the Botley interchange.

Visiting our eldest, decided to try somewhere outside the city for a change of scene. Booked in for 12:15, arrived early and were given menus to study over pre-meal drinks, whilst the waitress ran through the days specials. We chose a mix of dishes, all were cooked to perfection and went down very well.
The restaurant itself was very busy but still cosy enough for quiet conversation.
Service was very prompt, serving staff were friendly, looking forward to visiting again soon

It always feels very special going to the Fishes, whether just for a drink, or for a meal. It's a lovely setting, spacious but cosy in winter and lovely in Summer to sit out. I wouldn't say the food is superb and in fact I've made the mistake both times I've eaten there of having a salad and although they sound interesting on the menu and are interesting in terms of ingredients, they don't taste that interesting, so I'd probably avoid that next time BUT the other main dishes my family have had, have been delicious. So thumbs up for the food. And the service has always been good, friendly and helpful.
