Description: You've planned an afternoon punting a la Sebastian Flyte - you've got the boater, the stripy blazer, the wind-up gramophone and the obligatory teddy bear, but whoops, forgotten the picnic. Instead of eating sweaty sandwiches, plan your punting excursion round eating at Cherwell Boathouse. Owned and run by the same family for the past 30 years, Cherwell Boathouse, as its name suggests is right on the banks of the Isis (Oxford speak for the Thames) in a truly scenic spot. The restaurant is small and intimate with a beautiful terrace but not twee. The atmosphere is buzzy and lively and there is a huge range of age groups. However, if you are truly set on a picnic, the restaurant will organise a hamper for a minimum of 15 people if you pre-order. What's cooking: Fish Terrine with a light crab mayo; fragrant Thai broth, crispy sea bream with courgette and carrot tagliatelle on a bed of noodles with a tomato and caper jus; baked breast of mallard with a cranberry compote; white chocolate and ginger torte; chocolate layered crepe cake.

Person who served us takes to us in a very patronising and arrogant way,
They don’t have a high chair so my baby couldn’t have his meal. When the reservation was placed I told them that a baby was coming for lunch and the baby age

Poached pineapple sounded interesting so I ordered it. They served me tinned pineapple rings cut into quarters with a few adornments added. I felt conned.
The raviolo I ordered as a starter should have had a tasty langoustine broth around it - instead it came with a thick, heavy langoustine gravy.
The beef I had as a main course was ok. Very nice bone marrow.
This restaurant has some potential - but needs to do some work if it aspires to fine dining.

quite enjoyable evening in this riverside restaurant offering good food in a great setting. perhaps better for the larger groups dining than for romantic dinner à deux.

I was at this restaurant for a family celebration in September 2017. We were a large party and unfortunately a mistake was made with our meal. Our hostess ordered lamb but we were given guinea fowl. Firstly when our hostess mentioned the fact that she ordered lamb, she was assumed by the manager on the day to have made the mistake. It was eventually accepted the mistake had been made by the restaurant but the apology was superficial and it made a poor lasting impression. Our hostess was gracious in her conduct on the day but she was treated with complacency and arrogance. A second point I would make was that when several large parties were seated noise became a problem.
