We have ordered 2 mixed grill as we asked the waiter how long max will take to be ready he said 15 minutes maximum.
We had to wait more than 50 minutes to get the mixed grill.
The restaurant was full and only 1 waiter was serving the whole restaurant. What a stingy owner leaving he’s restaurant on a Sunday night with one waiter and it was bank holiday weekend.

At the end when I was paying for my bill they tried to charge me £4.10 for service charge!!

Never going back there after the nightmare we had for the service at the restaurant!!

I don’t recommend anybody to go there!!!!

We used to visit Al Shami regularly about eighteen years ago but no longer visit Oxford very often. We spent two nights in the city this week and decided to revisit- which can be a dangerous thing todo when you have fond memories of a place. We were not disappointed. The food was as good as we remembered, the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming and the service was prompt and friendly. Good to see that it is still moderately priced which made it very good value. As always, we shared about seven small dishes which, along with the house salad and bread was plenty.
Great to revisit, we won’t leave it so long next time!

We went for our anniversary here. We were greeted by a mute waiter no smile no welcome nothing. After being pointed to a table we waited about 15 minutes to order drinks as well as our food. When asking for advice on dishes the waiter just said everything is good but nothing else. A plate of salad was then given which was not easily edible as it was half a lettuce, half a pepper, tomato and radishes. Our starters arrived quickly followed by our mains even though we hadn't asked for them altogether. With no space on the table we tried to enjoy the food which actually was ok apart from both our main courses were missing the mushrooms which we hadn't been told about. We were hoping for an enjoyable relaxing evening but the way the service was and how the food was served all at the same time we felt like we were being made to rush and just another table to clear out. Very disappointed
Had to ask for dessert menu as well and sugar for the tea would have been easier to make it ourselves
Very very very poor service

First of all, the food is good. I'm not complaining about that at all. It's not amazing (you can find better in East Oxford), but I was satisfied.

However, if you go with a group, you'll be better off NOT ordering the set menu starting from £15 per person. We did just that (asked for all veggie but two people who'd asked for 'a couple of meat dishes') & for 7 people got one falafel each and one tiny pot of hummus (for example). They brought loads of salad dishes, which is nice, but a bit cheap (especially since you get their raw veggie plate to start with). The 2 meat eaters got 5 dishes including 2 identical plates of sausages. They were totally overwhelmed as the ratio just didn't make sense at all. Overall, we had 4 or 5 hot starters & the rest was mainly salad. We had to get up to fetch the waiter several times throughout the evening to order extra drinks. We also ordered more hummus for which they charged us extra!!! And they charged for service as well despite not coming to our table once after the food had arrived.

It's a nice atmosphere in there, but I just left thinking I paid way too much for what I got.

Four of us went over to this neighbourhood Lebanese restaurant for an evening meal on a weekday night. The place was almost full, but they found us a table in the inner large room. The decor was very typically middle eastern, with a lovely ceiling, and there was a noisy cheerfulness about the place . We started the evening with Arak and Lebanese beer and tea. We ordered many small plates of a variety of dishes, including Moutabel, a pureed baked aubergine dish with garlic and lime, a mixed salad (Fattoush), along with Lebanese flatbread. We also had foul moukala,a dish of fried broadbeans in olive oil, the Falafel- which is ground chickpeas made into a patty with spices, and fried, the Kellaje Halloum-flatbreads with grilled haloumi cheese. As the dishes were not too large, we also ordered the fried cauliflower, which was excellent (Zehran Maqlia) and the mixed grill, with chicken and lamb, served with tomatoes, mushrooms and onions. To go along with all this we had more Lebanese bread, and the Mujadara, which was cracked wheat cooked with lentils and onions and served with yogurt. As could have been predicted, we were stuffed after this tasty meal, so we skipped desert. We left, contented.
