Whe have now eaten here on four separate occasions. Twice for an evening meal and twice for Sunday dinner. On each occasion the food has been consistently good and the service excellent. Their is also a good selection of wines and real ale. My only criticism is that when people are drinking at the bar in the restaurant it can get a little overcrowded and uncomfortable.

As a solo traveller in York I was made to feel really comfortable by the staff. Greeted and seated and had a drink bought across - along with a newspaper.

The food I ordered was excellent - quality and quantity was spot on. Nice cup of coffee to finish.

The place itself was an interesting pub with a number of rooms. All comfortable with nooks and cranies.

Highly recommended.

Delightful old pub in York. Of course there are many of these but this one has top quality food at really good value to go with it. On this our second trip we were having a light lunch - the light lucnhes were ample for a main meal and excellent quality. Mutton stew and dumplings for £7 unusual and substantial. Worth the walk to the top of Goodramgate.

It was the inclusion in Trip Advisors top ten pub restaurants that persuaded us to go, and how glad we are to have made the discovery. The landlord was so welcoming. The place was clean and delightfullky preserved its history.. The seating was comfortable. Then the menu - a good mix of light bites and main courses. We went for the light bites, smoked salmon & prawn good quality and generous quantities and a mutton stew to die for. Light bites filled us to busting, so how full you might be after a main course we can only guess. But this is one place we shall gladly visit again (and again).
